Hi Guys and Gals, Im looking into moving to the U.S from Australia, my industry in which i work is all based in So-cal and thinking of living around Huntington, can some of the guys from around this area give me a heads up on weather guys share large workshops or most guys build the rides from garages at home. I'm just looking for tips on what to do or any advise on where i should consider living or even better if anyone has some space on offer?? If you would like to have a chat about some option i have, please Pm me with a phone number and i'll give you a call, Thanks
Just want to welcome you to the U.S. in advance, hotrod200, I wish you and yours thee very best America has to offer! TR
plus & minus for any place you pick to move to. budget is a big one. another big one to consider is distance from your job to residence, long commute can be a deal killer. yep, home garage is main place to work on your car. bringing yours with you or starting over once here? space to share? as in a place to live/work on cars? pick a couple of towns and search real estate sites in them. likely someone down your way has connections in California to help you out.
We took that same route in '71 from N.S.W. to Hawaii.. From there to San Fran and then to Motown.. Been here ever since..
If you are thinking about Huntington Beach houses can run 500K+, rents are 2200+ and most builds are done in the owners garage if you are building it yourself. Traffic sucks in SoCal but the weather is nice and lots of car activity. Good Luck on your move and welcome to the good ol' U.S.A.
X2 what Jalopy Joker said. A 30 mile commute can take you 2 hours or more during rush hour. Huntington is pricey to live in and unless you can afford a big house....garage space and parking is limited. Not alot of folks sharing or renting shop space. Not like in the old days when my pops or grandad could rent out space in a shop to work on their own cars. Good luck and welcome to the U.S. I hope you're prepared for SoCal. Terry
Thanks Guys, Im looking at renting around huntington beach area, as i believe its a good mid point between where my work would be and where my wifes work would also possibly be. i only asked if guys share workshop in the area, as i currently share a factory here with 6 friends and it works out great, always someone to have a beer with and bounce ideas off. i'm flying over later in the week to have a look around. thanks to everyone.
Good to see another Aussie transplant . I have been here for 9 years and just emersed myself in this place. If your in san Diego hit me up I'll show you around
Welcome to the country, hope you find a good area to settle in. I like the idea of several guys renting space together, just never caught on around here. Maybe with the many newly vacant areas around, it might happen. Good luck and welcome to you and your family.
I moved here last year from the Northeast, I live 5 miles from the beach (HB) Its a great place...easy to get to LA or down to SD. The weather is great and traffc is totally cool around this whole area. You can rent work shops but most homes have garages attached. Look at local surrounding citys like Fountian Valley, Costa Mesa, Newport and such...so manycar related event at your finger tips here! Good luck and let us know where you end up.
Hope it works out for you man, love to make that move but can't see how to make it work financially. You want to buy a house or 4? then I'm there!
