Yep, I did the "search", I'd like to see pictures of how you guys are doing it. This would be for a SBC, just want something clean and simple. Thanks in advance
I use 'em, rather, my Caddy engine does...but I've hidden them...consequently, pictures are hard to achieve...not much to see... R-
Heres some pics of the wires I just ran on my 283, ran the wires under the headers, used the stock looms that mount aft of the block, I did use some of the cheap (under $5.00) plastic looms to keep everything ***e........
See how nobody responded to this request, but they did the second? We had NO idea what you were you were asking for... I for one would have never guessed plug wires from the first request..
http://www.thehotrodcompany.com/shopnow/show_item.asp?product_id=4273, heat shrink the ends were the wire comes out. also you can make slits in the side to put one or two wires out of it if you need and then use smaller loom to run those. use the black hockey stick type tape to put them together. then use the metal hold downs to tie them to the frame or body in a nice line. oh i just saw you meant plug wires.... nevermind then!
Heres the 283 for the 51 P/U im building usin cheapo looms from JEGS I think Ill try to find some done similar on my 54 too
Heres the 383 in my 54....these style looms to me are cleam and sturdy! This pic isnt so great but shows the direction of wires leaving the cap..
I don't recall who the manufacturer is but these simple vertical wire looms made for a clean looking installation...
For wiring I like to use skate laces. Cut the ends off, then snake your primary wire through the inside of the lace. If your good you should be able to fit 4-5 16ga. wires through there. Gives it that old school cloth wrapped look, and is available in a variety of colors. For wires in high heat areas one could use the waxed laces. Beats the **** out of that plastic stuff.
The dist cap is aftermarket- it allows the wires to run that way on all small block chevys with a dist.
I like the little plastic screw together wire separators also, they work for me and keep thinks simple.
Sorry but that IS a stock cap. N otice the plug wires run under and across the distributor. There are cross fire caps on the market that have connectors embedded in the plactic to acheive that look, but I would still stick with the stocker.
Ok, now I'm awake, Chevy54, that's a nice looking motor, I see now how you looped the wires behind the distr. That's a very clean application.
Thanx Grits, this is my budget truck daily drive build...nothing but a seal kit, cleaning my *** off, aerosol spray, cheap wire looms and some new wires!! A much dif build then my 54!!
I went down to the fabric store and picked up some thread and laced the bunch with thread. Time consuming but very clean when done and amazingly they stay put extremely well. The wires are cloth wires from Vintage Ford.
Wow I like that. I personally don't care for the "streetrod shelves" hanging off the side of the engine. I can see that it took some time but I like it. It could have very easily been done this way in 1956. The shelves say 90s streetrod to me.
