As the good lords prevailed I am about to start building my first hot rod build. It's a 30/31 coupe that I scored from 50 Bomb. I'm planning on going a traditional route with it. I am currently a college student so I only get to really work on it during breaks, weekends, and the occasional personal furlough!
I gotta resize em' all so I'll get them up in manana! I didn't realize how late it was, 4:45 comes pretty quick!
Finally got some pictures loaded up onto Photobucket. Here's the link. http://s1198.photobucket.com/albums/aa443/bmckinseyfarms/ . Work has been busy the last couple weeks, and I got a bachelor party this weekend, and a produce convention taking up most of next week there will probably be no progress to be made. For the body. I'm in a pickle. I wouldn't mind bringing it up to stock height but channel the back about a inch like some of the old lakesters. But I'll probably end up channeling it about 4 inches. It's going to receive a haircut. I was feeling the trim should be between 4.5-5 inches. That's where they look best I think. I've going to put/keep all the gl*** in it. I got a bench seat out of a Pinto wagon, and a set of cut down VW's that are already wrapped in nogahyde. Somewhat leaning toward the bench for room and a little more comfortable. It's not too often you see benches. I'm for getting a few things but oh well.
Damn that's an awesome start....mine's NOWHERE near that....rear end, cowl, frame...just a pile of parts is all I've got XP
Thanks! The only real thing wrong with the body is two small dents on the rumble seat. Do any of you guys run a Br***works Rad? I've been looking at them and got a quote back and it was reasonable. Plus their only about an hour down the road.
I have been researching br***works and I will be going with them for my coupe. Also, they give a $50 discount for alliance members so if you ever thought about ponying up a few bucks to help out the HAMB you'll get your $ back right away with the purchase of a new radiator I personally like the deep 8" channel, but I know you're going to go with about 4". Are you planning a chop?? Mine is highboy getting a 5" haircut. (Lots more work than say, a 3" or 4" chop but so much meaner looking!!)
Edit** I'm an idiot! I see you're planning a channel AND chop. Plan it out well, you'll lose a bunch of room with such a heavy chop.
Hungover from yesterday still? ha ha. I think I've decided on 4.5 it's between my 4 and 5. I have a 28/29 coupe you can see in one of the pictures its got a little over a 5" hair cut with a 4 inch channel (its fairly rough). It's not bad, I am slighty vertically challenged at 5'8. I am an Alliance member. I figured the knowledge gained on here is well worth $50! Plus the discount are plus! Astro do you still have any clamps?
Just got a set of Buick drums I scored from SMichaels. I'm going to try to blast them this week. I'm still waiting for my firewall to come in, another HAMB score! No real progress has been made on the car as of late, been swamped with work on the ranch. I did manage burn some midnight oil and put my intake and carbs on. I also mated the motor and trans. I've have been looking at getting a new Cam. Anyone running a Lunati Voodoo flat tappet?
Use gl*** bead on those drums and they'll come up beautifully. Why do you still have the FNG ***le if you've joined the Alliance? You should chase up Ryan.
I bead blasted my drums today at my buddy Mitch's shop down the road from my dads ranch. They turned out sweet! I only took one picture. I might have also scored a 8CM Flattie from him. It's not going to go on this build but I'm pretty excited about it. He also has a Banjo out of a 42 Ford he's thinking about getting rid. I went on a Poker Run (Mel's Run) Saturday for a close friend that p***ed away about 8 years. While on the run I picked up a girl from Paso who was my date for a wedding that night in Gilroy. When I dropped her off on Monday afternoon I went by Jimmy Raders shop in Bradley, formally in Atascadaro. He's good friends with Mitch who has a 28/29 pickup cab and another buddy has a 31 coupe he's working on. Jimmy does amazing body work, chops, and fabricating. While there he was showing me the pictures of past projects including the Triple Nickel Roadster (one of my favorite cars) with push truck, preforming repairs on Al Unsers car the won Indy in 70, and 71 (plus another Indy Car Parelli Jones purchased). Also, a few shots of a Lincoln Zepher I can't remember year, that was one of two in existence in the world from what I was told. It was a awesome experience to be around such a talent individual and to have him take over 2 hours (wasn't intentional to make it that long) out of his day to show some 22 year old around.
Here's a picture of Mitch's pickup after Jimmy took 10 inches out of it. It's also got a hand formed roof, back window, 30/31 visor, and filled in window channels. I also got my firewall tag in late last week!
Get some work done on that thing. I still kick myself for selling it but I can't keep everything! Looking good buddy.
Picked up my frame from Derrick at Boling Brothers yesterday. His work is freaking bad ***. I snapped a couple pictures of it this afternoon after I unloaded.
Thanks Cody! I think I have almost finished all the parts collecting. Thanks guys Im really happy with how it turned out. I couldnt say enough nice things about Derrick and the guys at Boling Brothers. Today my dash came in it's a 37 Ford.
Haven't worked on the car as of late. School just started so I won't be able to work on it. I didn't get as much as I hoped to this summer but that's life. I sold my other coupe to fellow HAMBer Oscar(widewhite66). I am going to have my friend Jimmy chop it. The body is so nice I don't want to end up going back wards. Heres a couple pictures of the motor sitting in the frame and doing a little model a hauling. t
