x2...I'm afraid that is the true indication. This is why the local shows or more traditional hot rods shows are becoming such a big deal. The LSRU, HAMB events, Bowling Green HRR and others of similar nature are becoming the other big deal. Both of the big boys (NSRA & GG's) are "for profit" organizations and have to be run like the business they are. It doesn't bother me to walk by 100 late model anythings at the GG events (don't go very often) to look at the cars I enjoy seeing. It's just part of the deal anymore.
    Happy motoring !!

It amazes me how many post on this site is somebody *****ing or making a comment about what somebody else is doing. GET OVER IT!

Goodguys can do whatever they want to do because, they are Goodguys and have that right. Just like Ryan could change this site to another format if HE wanted to do so because it's his.

Start your own show if you don't like how the others are going, it's possible. It would be a lot of work, and would take a lot of money, but it's possible.

As far as wishing it was the old days, wish in one hand and **** in the other, see which one fills up first. I do not care for imports, mini trucks, or for that matter anything made after 1969, but I can appreciate a kid who made some minor mods to his mini truck because he only makes $8.00 an hour and can't afford to buy a fibergl*** replica of a 32 Ford, he can't even dream of spending $50,000 on an original, but at least he is a motor head and he is working with what he has got.

I had an expereince at a local cruise in last year where a young guy pulled in driving a S-10. Truck was clean, had been lowered with a nice rake, steel wheels with hubcaps and trim rings, Hot Rod black, rolled and pleated bench seat, etc. If the truck had been a 58 Apache, it would have been dead on. All the old timers I was standing with started *****in the minute he parked near them, these are the guys who have buildings full of old ****, but won't sell a single thing because then they couldn't tell other old timmers that they "have three Henry 32's". I ended up walking over to his truck later that night. I saw a 1st/75th sticker on his truck and that was my unit, we started talking. He said he really wanted an early pick-up, but he had been in Walter Reid for the last two years for a traumatic brain injury he got in combat. He just had just started back to school, kid had won a Bronze Star, and the *****s wouldn't even walk over and talk to him because he was driving a late model truck.

It's stupid, it's arrogant, and it's petty. It's even worse if the guy *****ing is driving a fibergl*** car or a re-pop steel car. Get over yourself...

I go for the swapmeet and vendors, hold my nose at the entry and parking fees, (actually I get pissed,) find what I need, grab a burger and usually out by 11AM. I get my rod jones satisfied at local cruises and the HAMB.

  5. That is how billet proof came into being. Now Kirk is working for the goodguys ironic isn't it.

Another thought on this subject... Has there ever been a real cut off at any Good Guys or NSRA show? Back in NSRA "hay day" you always saw Chev 5 window pick-ups everywhere. Do you really think all those were pre 48 ? How about all the Bullet nose Studes? Do you really think every 48' stude got a 50 front end put on it? So a lil food for thought on cut offs at the shows . Cool cars are Cool no matter the year.

Who cares about Greed Guys anyway? Their events no longer have any drag racing. The only thing they have now is lawn chairs. Never went to one of their events where cars were segregated by year. It's all about the $$$$$$$.

This thread is comedy GOLD! I LOVE the narrow minded "my way or the highway" thinking. What I really think is funny is that if I decided to offer up my GoodGuys wall banner for sale right here on the HAMB, there would be no lack of takers.

I'm reminded of a story a friend told me. He had at 51 chevy coupe at the time and went to a rod show with a 48 cutoff. He missed that part, horse on him. As he was being being told of the cutoff for the show, a plastic 32 ford was being let in. He then told the guy that his chevy was a 1932..... The guy looked at him like he was crazy, my friend said, pointing to the plastic 32, "if that's a 32 ford, mine is a 32 chevy, that's a plastic kit car, no more a 32 ford than my car is a 32 chevy.

"I thought that said a lot at the time. No early chevy iron, but a "new" kit car 32 is alright.

although I live in England and will never get to go, I do like the coverage here on the HAMB, and I trust you guys to point your cameras at the right cars, so I'm with strange agent. I only get pissed when a show has a cut-off date and doesn't enforce it. Besides, looking at it all from this side of the pond a lot of you guys over there don't know how good you got it.

Good point Berzerk and something I need to remember. Some guys work with what they have to work with, and there is nothing wrong with that in my book.

As far as shows go, not every car is my cup of tea. I don't have a problem walking around the ones I'm not interested in but every once in a while an OT car catches my eye and I can appreciate the craftsmanship that went into it. Hell, they even inspire an idea or two once in a great while.

As far as being all about making money, so what? I personally like free enterprise. The great thing about free markets is if the demand isn't there to support it they'll do something else. There is not a damned thing wrong with profit. It's what gives us the quality of life we all enjoy.

I personally could care less, I often say anything they can do to get younger people into our hobby I am for. Some younger people do not like the old cars and that is fine, some have talent and want to show it off.

Also there is a larger show here in MN that the cutoff is 1964. I have herd rumblings that they want to cut it back to 1959 because it is to big, 10,000 plus cars for a 3 day event. What are they doing so right that GG is doing so wrong?????????

  16. Damn ! My Divco is a 1948, for a reason

  17. Its all about perception. I knew a guy back in the '90s back in early years of everything had to be in primer that had the worlds sweetest Deuce roadster. It was clean as could be with a flatty etc. he p***ed it off as a daily driven go anywhere whenever you wanted to barn find on a regular basis. It was gl*** and got trailered to most shows more than an hour away.

It was successfully p***ed off as a barn find because it was perceived that way.

  18. If people wanna PAY to "show" their newer "I don't give a **** cars", then, I don't give a ****

When the HAMB opens up to any and all, I'll buy my **** storm suit.

Just go to the tack and saddle shop and buy a set of those blinders they have for horses.

Or glue a pair of TP tubes to your sungl***es.

    That will ensure tunnel vision.

And people can't figure out why the hobby is dying off?

At***udes like those old timers are why younger guys think this hobby is full of A$$holes! It should have been obvious by the style the truck was built in, that the driver "gets it" and probably has an interest in traditional stuff, and maybe can't afford (or heaven forbid even wants) an "old" car.

It wasn't covered in van graphics and bouncing through on the bags with the stereo t*******.......but then that's how kids cruise today, just like the old guys guys WISHED they had: except they would have been in an obnoxiously Watson painted painted car that was overly lowered with bellflowers. The funny part is the generation before them dreamed of a smooth Barris custom or a Flatty powered Black 32 highboy and looked at the 60's "Hippie" car scene and wondered WTF just like today's "Old Guys".

Think of Milner-vs-Steve in American Grafitti!

The fact is, time has a funny way of changing what's cool/trendy and NSRA and GG are just staying with it whether we like it or not! Good for the guys who don't like their "philosophy" of keeping with the times and start shows that cater to the cars they like. That's what makes being a car guy in America great!!

BTW, good for you Berzerk for talking to the guy. He is just as much a hero, as the 80 year old WWII vet that everyone wants to talk to. He just part of a different generation. It's guys like him who let us keep enjoying (and *****ing about) the things we take for granted!!

well I could see how this would be a terrible thing if they were replacing old cars with new ones, but I'm pretty sure the old ones will still be there.

  25. berzerk, i aggree with you

sometimes when im at a show ill stand at the end of an isle and look down it if nothing grabs my attention i walk to the next isle ...soo walking past an occational "newer" car wont bother me

of course i like cars built up to 74 so i dont see a problem ill keep my goodguys membership thanks (which i just remembered i have to renew)

if there is a cool looking newer then 74 car/truck that i like ya ill look it over to and maybe snap a pic or two

Berzerk, great story, great post. As a vet myself, that really rings with me. Look this issue of what gets let in has been around for decades. Hell I went to first Lead East in '84 (I think but at my age who remembers) and found my scalloped '48 Chevy cruiser parked next to by an Isetta that had been sprayed with glue and covered in pink flock! Looked like a car for the Easter Bunny! Just moved my car and enjoyed that hot weekend. Live and let live, and for my two cents, enjoy the fact you can build a car, drive it and life is good. The local cruise nights, the local drive-ins, and the local charity shows are my staple events these days. Laid back, low or no cost, and you get a mix of entrants. If you don't like a venue, don't go. Don't like the food in a restaurant, plenty of other places offering grub, same sort of issue, right?
The Pennsylvania Dutch have a saying, "too soon we grow old, too late we grow smart". Now that I am a year away from the HAMB 70 list and facing cancer surgery, stuff like "why is that 2011 Corvette in this show" doesn't mean a hill of beans to me. My car is there, I am damn proud of it and life goes on.

Pretty much sums it up. Only about 10 -20 cars out of 1,500 grab my attention anyway.
