Take it. Go have a good time. If some rectum makes a snide comment-invite him to buy you a Brookville roller so's you can meet his standards next year.
This whole "event" thing ain't a contest, it's a bunch of folks looking to have a good tme with hot rods, it ain't really about the 5% who go round humming "My wallet's thicker than your wallet."

No; take it! Rods of all types are cool there. (Please guys, don't start on the "across 49th street" thing here)
I think its a great event if you are a car guy.

  10. not to offend anyone whom i may have inspected in the past and not to offend any i may inspect in the future, but, ive safety inspected what seemed to be (at first) far worse for wear than just that first glimpse. heck some of them have even recieved a 16 (a few 23's) pt pass sticker!

long story short, take it. if someone, anyone has an IQ higher than a gnat theyd know to respect your ride regardless of thier own narrow-minded opinion on what cars "should" be.

A beater is along time honored tradition. Notice the tag date. There used to be an expression...'It's better in a beater"

Usually they were just unfinished drivers and not the RR term that does not go over well today. There was even a beater competition at many shows.

I was a terminal nondriving builder with nothing on the road for years. In 1978 2 weeks before our club was leaving for the Nats in Columbus. I bought a 47 Chevy woody wagon. It would start and had brakes so I decided to drive it to Columbus. I got it all tuned up only to find out that it had a cracked block. So I didn't make it that year but I have tried very hard to have something driving to take to the shows that I attend ever since.

We didn't fake patina or intentionally make it ugly. We did make them run well and they were safe.

I lost the beater contest at the Cumberland Md. show to a 34 Ply 4dr. He removed the sheets that covered the cotton batting that was coming out everywhere for the show. I had duct taped the split seams in the original seats on my woody. I should have left the split seams.:D

Take it, it's a lot better than a '72 Ford Pinto.

Absolutely go! My first ride, in my teen years, was what you would call a beater today. It was a '47 Ford tudor that the local welding shop used to break in their race car motors by pushing the welding truck with it up Rt 9. They ran NASCAR '37 Chevy coupes at Agawam, MA. Anyway bought car for $50, included was an adaptor, Chev to early Ford. I built my first motor, a 283" from a salvage yard and I was proud as punch of that car. Yeah it had the original black paint that wasn't very good but no rust. Couple of bucket seats from an early 50s Chevy sedan delivery (lot of those back then in the junk yards). Some scavenger pipes (remember them?) and no hood so everyone could see my motor. To show how long ago this was, I swapped a banjo in good condition for a set of Corvette two fours, complete with aircleaners and all. And yeah my boss at the Mobil Station made me do the brakes 100% along with shocks and tires before he would inspect it. But it was my hot rod, I did it myself, owned it free and clear and it was safe. So go for it, have a great time! When you get as old as me, you understand it is what you think, not some jerk, that counts.

  24. .......I think you should take your truck and be proud of it.

Take it and if some jerk mouths off ask him how much did he personally do to a ride, then laugh when he tells you how much he spent paying someone else.

Don't even think of not taking it. You don't need paint to have fun.

  27. Another variation I remember from the 1970's-80's was "It's a beater, next year it will be neater"

I agree with all of the above . I have seen much worse at the nats and would love to ride rather than walk the grounds myself.
