These are for sale on the HAMB. I recieved a picture from the seller, and they look like aluminum Ansen Sprints to me.
I'm no expert and could be wrong. I have owned dozens of magnesium and aluminum wheels. I told the seller what I thought they were. I wont go into detail but he got pretty nasty with me.
    What do you guys think:

Sounds like drama. If you were really interested in aluminum vs. magnesium, you wouldn't be adding the back story.

Judging by the white powdery corrosion and color, they look like Magnesium to me,.... hold them a little closer to the computer so I can get a real good look.:D
To be sure,... you could always set one on fire and see if it burns

Frankly I think you owe the guy an apology,... (IMHO)

I have magnesium wheels that are in about the same state...the discoloration is almost identical.

They definitely have that dark mag color with some apparent pitting.
However, I have a pair of 80's aluminum Halibrands that had the same patina.

The cast looks EXACTLY like the Ansen Sprint

IMO if you thought they were aluminum, the thing to have done was click off the post and move on.

Shakey, you've owned so many wheels I thought you were the wheel guy. They look like Ansen sprints to me. Ask the guy how much they weigh, then you'll know.

I'm "thinkin" grungy aluminum....Wheels aren't shaped like any MAG slot I've ever seen.....Looks like aluminum where center cap screws are....Just my 2 cents worth (or maybe less!)...If you are reselling them I'd p*** unless they are cheap.

The grey colour looks like mag to me , my bearclaws and big window halibrands were the same colour, the front faces are a different shape (smooth to the outer lip )to my Fenton Gyros so i'd say they're out

Here is a side by side comparison of the wheels in question, next to an aluminum Ansen Sprint wheel.
Casting looks exactly the same to me. One wheel has a screw in center cap and the other is a push in.
To my knowledge Ansen never made magnesium wheels.

I got the same picture, but no reply after asking about any brand markings, if they had been tested in any way to prove they are magnesium and I stated they look like Ansens.:D I was also curious if they were really 15x4's like the Ansens they appear to be or truly 3-1/2" like a Fenton as listed but did not ask.

I would understand the guy getting cheesed that no one believes him but that is often the case with rare stuff. I hope they are real as they are one more cool part out there that the m***es can't pick up up at Walmart. Fact is $1,200 is $1,200 and really I'd rather have a common mag American than an odd ball Ansen Sprint.

I've heard claims of mag Ansens before but have never found a set. What I ran across were Halibrands with the lips ground off and once a pair of Ansen 15x4's that had an old battery leak on them in a damp old shed resulting in an identical appearance to these after roughly ten years.

  22. It's a major big deal to the guy who pays top dollar for magnesium and ends up with aluminum.I'd want to know 100 percent and don't blame Shaky for wanting to know.

Well maybe someone else can ask the seller to look at the back of the wheels. He is extremely upset at me for suggesting his wheels may not be magnesium.

  24. Ask him to weigh them, should be able to compare the weight comparable wheel in aluminum since you have some.

Found it, someone also suggested using a little dawn dish soap and water, if its mag it will turn black.

The $1,200 was his asking price, not any quote of value of mine except that I would gladly pay $1,200 for mag Americans instead out of preference.... So are you referring to standard aluminum Ansen's going for around $300 plus or 15x4 American's topping two grand? Or the difference between a Halibrand with no lip and acid etched Ansens?

"Was going to say that too....I had pair similar to the these but were 4.5

So did you have heavy heavy heavy no name on the back "Mag" Ansens or US Indys that are sometimes unlabled, heavy, similar to Ansens and were common in 4-1/2 ??

When I saw the price, pattern and mag....I was thinking possible deal.....

The heavy wheels were possibly u.s. mags....been a few years since I sold those. Either way I bet he got more than a few Pm's on them at that price...;)
