Your truck, your build, your ideas....that is what makes it fun.
If you want a "Bobber" go for it...and enjoy....just think out all your options first..
    Cheers...........

If you've been weened from the bobber idea at this point, then now you need to put the sanding block and spray can down as well. That truck earned that paint and weathering. There are people that will spend thousands of dollars or hundreds of hours to get a look like your truck has.
OK, maybe you should just put it up for sale and move on to something you want. And the truck can move on to someone that wants it for what it is. Plenty of guys would give their left nut for that truck, just the way it sits. Time to make some money on it. :)

  3. See thats why i dont want to spend thousands on THIS project. its because i've already got a 31 tudor sedan that i want to finish for my family ride. this is just more or less my shop truck.

  4. Thats why i bought it, i knew someone out there would enjoy it. and if it stayed on the farm it was going to get crushed. I didnt want to see something like that happen. So we hauled it off.

  5. Did you make a build thread for your truck?? would love to see more pictures of yours. Looks great IMO.

  6. I just don't like scrolling all the way back to the beginning to make sure I didn't miss something. ;)

Tell you what if you are not sure about the truck I'll figure out a way to get it from your possion to mine. We don't live so far apart that when we both suffer from traders remorse it won't cost us much to get them back to their rightfull owners. :D:D

I am a truck guy by nature, so for me to say that the truck is a good starting place is only natural for me. But here is something to think about, if you build a cut down truck out of it you will basically end up with wierd looking coupe. If you want a coupe you shouldn't have any trouble trading it for a coupe and then you will be starting where you want to end up.

  7. How would i prevent it from oxidizing any worse then it already is. I would drive it around as is, but im afraid that then it would start rusting out.

  8. Used oil and kerosene mixed and put in a pump sprayer is what an old farmer I know uses. he hoses his old stuff down about once a year then wipes it with a rag.

It will reuin it for future paint. If it were mine at the very least I would give it a scuff and blow some sealer on it or some DP-90 or something like that.

Ok, build something out of it. Whatever you do to it sure beats letting it rust any further back to the earth that it came from. At least it'll be getting used.

  10. I dont want to ruin it for paints, because i thought i'd drive it around for a while and if i decided i like the truck then i'd sink some more money into fixing the paint/body.

Im the type that doesnt want to sink a ton of money into the truck if its something im not going to drive all the time. I may get it running and driving and realize i just DONT like the look of that truck and sell it.

Or i might realize that this truck is exactly what i want, and it just needs some paint to be finished.

I'm glad you have reconsidered the bobber "thing". It would be a shame to ruin one of the most beautiful front ends on any pickup, ever. That thing could be so cool!

  12. I found a website that had over 1300 pics of 1940-41 fords. seeing the different style builds on all them was interesting. I grew up thinking that the 53 f100 was the most amazing truck ever built (still in love with mine). But Now i've started opening my eyes to the curves and body lines and front end of the 41 ford.

I hope i can find the original v8 tail gate. We'll see though.

  13. What is a truck in that kind of condition worth? (missing the grill, tailgate, gl***, and front suspension).

Because i guess I think i got a good deal, idk what everyone else would consider a good deal as on a truck like this.

  14. I am tight and not willing to go over a grand for a project. Yours is not a roller if memory serves but I am guessing that a grand is still probably what someone would want for it.

If I offered you 600 it would be a lot but that is just me.

Being a '40 guy,I like to see them full fendered. If you absolutely want a "bobber", I have a '39 truck that would be perfect for you.

  17. Awesome build thread mj, i'll break it down and read everything tonight, i just skimmed the surface so far. great project!

    I have pictures That's a good idea.
You sayed the grill was a problem. I saw some were a guy was making fibergl*** grills for a 40. And I remember the price was not bad. The grill I have is a Bob Drake about $700+ but worth it.

A guy sat on my fender and broke my old grill. The cost to have it fixed was close to the price of the Drake grill. I see a 40 grill at Speedway. Send me your email add I'll try to send you some pictures.

  23. Email em to free_agent58@msn.com, sure do appreciate it man. I'll check speedway out and see what they have to offer. I'm gunna trailer it the rest of the way home this weekend and start seeing what all I'm going to need for it.

If you want to bobber out a P/U use a '38 cab, those p/u's are ugly as F in the first place, DONT do it to a '40 or 41!!

Seriously? Turn a solid project into a POS Rat Rod??????

  26. read the whole thread people. Im going to build it to look like rustyfords pick up. I've been persuaded to keep the fenders and all on the truck.

This truck will be saved! haha.

SBF, 9" rear, havent decided on a trans yet, havent decided on the front. was planning on running an i-beam axle up front, but wouldnt mind IFS. we'll see once i get into it some more.

  27. glad you changed you plans with the truck. the power of the hamb is a wonderful thing. good luck with it and get some progress pics up as soon as you can. Jeff

  28. I'll start a build thread before too long. its my birthday sunday, hopefully i can get it pulled into town Saturday and then work on it all weekend. It will prolly be a slow project beings i've got soo many friends projects i have to help on, and then working 60 hours a week. FUN!

  29. If you are running that Boss you need a 4 gear it won't start breathing until you hit 4K. Do not put an OD behind it unless you are running 5.56 gears or so. Your cruise RPM should be 4K and above.
