I took thiis photo in Topeka in '69 at an IMCA race. My dad Luke was driving the Cecil Davis #8 from the St. Louis area. I was only 13, but remember Ron being extremely polite. - even to this kid. Everyone seemed happy he won that trophy - nice guys do finish first. Sorry somebody walked in front of the camera - but ducked at the last second. I couldn't get another shot because a bunch of people showed up. Half way up the photo you can bearly see a white sprint tail sticking out - that was Dad's ride. And, I think the blue Chevy pickup with white top and cap on the left was the car owners. I rode in that "cap" from near Pittsburgh to Tampa. Bob Easter

In the first pic, it looks like the l/f brake line is tucked up under the nose hoop. Makes me wonder if they didn't have a busted rotor or something and just pinched off the front brakes to get by.

Wow, Rootie's got a really good eye! You can just make out the line next to the coil-over in the other shot too. I'm sure the front brakes had to be turned off in any event.
However, you can almost bet that if Jackie & Doug won the main that night, there'd be a half dozen cars with the same "hot setup" the next night, tryin' like heck to figure out how to keep from stuffing it in the fence...

I was just about to say that looked like a Caruthers operation, but I figured I'd wait until Roy chimed in to make it official.

we always had a valve to shut off the front brakes when pushing off the car, I'm guessing the rotor got broken or something, I will still check with Jackie and see if he remembers, I am thinking he only drove it one time

  10. The photographer of the Howerton/Caruthers picture, was I think Tim Malone. Could this be Wichita Speedway , Wichita, KS?

    Thanks Roy, and everybody

Last week I posted a photo of a midget roadster asking for a ID. This car is here on the west coast. Over the years a beautiful Kurtis roadster type body has been built for the car. The frame is all beatup and needs to be redone. My question are there drawings of the layout of those Kurtis midget roadsters. I saw drawings of the 1956 Novi Indy car here on this site but I can't find them, could they please be posted again. Were the Indy car and midget frames similiar?
Here are photos of Don Brown drawings
    Thanks

Could you give me the wheelbases listed on the drawings. The pics come out too blurry to read, but good enough for model work.

Click on the pic twice so it opens in its own window then click again and it will come up full size. The sprint is 86 wb the champ is 96.

Those were drawn by our own Johnnyfast before he passed. We traded a few sets of blueprints back and forth.

Probably not this summer. Between running a business, family and 2 cracked Chevy II blocks, the midget has suffered a little neglect. I did get all the body work done and dropped the body off at the painters this morning. Once that is done I will have to get a hold of the Shaw family for some signature striping.

The chassis is done minus engine and fuel lines. I hope to get the body on and the car down on the ground by the end of July. At least it will look like a finished car then. Other than a block the only part I am missing is a drive shaft. I am looking for a 16-10 about 19" long.

The Don Brown drawings are framed and hanging at Woodland's museum in Paso Roblas.

They may be hanging there but if you look in the bottom right corner you can see Johnnyfast's signature S J Fast and date 1/25/01. He was passionate about blueprints as am I, and I just want him to get the credit he deserves for drawing them. He told me he based them off of a Grant King design. He sent me copies in trade for some of mine.

Hard to keep those sprint cats still while you restore them :D Don't have a CAE sprint car print, but I have this CAE modified stuff. Essentially, they were just oversized sprint cars and it would be easy enough to "noodle out" sprint car dimensions from them.

"Extrapolate??" Stop it Rootie. Remember, this is a sprint car thread. Please try to stay with single syllable words like: stop, go, left, right, in, out, and on occassion one two syllable word: bull****. Once you move up to Champ cars, you could say: push and loose. But, please don't ever say: understeer or oversteer.
