This story goes back a few weeks. I had just bought that nice lil 38 tudor sedan. I had found it on Craigslist, bought it and liked it. Well it wasn't more then a couple days later my friend Len told me about a car I have wanted for a very long time. A 1947 Ford convertible. It was near us so we went and looked at it. No motor, no trans, no title and the guy wasn't even sure he was selling it...but somewere 15k popped up. A bit much, but these cars do not pop up all the time and when they do they can be spendy. I thought about it, put the 38 up for sale and hoped for the best. The 38 sold to a local guy in a couple days. I called the guy with the 47 and he said he could not part with it. He is middle aged, bought the car when he was a kid and has had it forever. No worries to me, it was a lot of money anyways.

Fast forward to last Wednesday night. I'm crusing Ebay and come across a 1948 Ford convertible in Joplin, MO. It looked decent, ran, and looked to be pretty solid. I put a "help wanted" add on here and Ryno (I will thank him forever) offered to meet the guy and look at the car for me. Thursday afternoon Ryno emailed me 64 pictures and a video of it running. He pointed out some trouble areas, nothing that out of the ordinary or scary. The guy also said he had to sell it right away, going through a divorce. I call the guy and strike a buy-it-now deal. He sold it too me for under 2/3 what the other one was. Only thing is he wanted to keep the tires/wheels. Ryno to the rescue again. He offered to put some rollers on it. The guy is the real deal, thanks so much again man!!!
OK, so I do it and paypal the guy a deposit. Tell him I am leaving at 5am the next morning to fly to LA for the roadster show, I will wire the rest of the money Monday. Marcy was coming up here and said she could grab the car.

So, I wire the $$$ Monday morning, Marcy, Titus and Jeff Allison pick it up Tuesday AM, and 1700 miles later the car is in my driveway Wednesday night! It all went smooth and I have some good friends to thank for that.

So here it is. I put some whites and caps on it I had around. It has a 292 Y block with a adapter to a 39 tranny. Otherwise stock. All lights work, horn works, and my Brother, Lucy and I just went for a spin around the block. It needs a lot of work, but is a good solid start.

Plans are to lower it in the front, even more in the rear, skirts, spots, ect. Very mild custom, but a good cruiser.

Marcy, Titus, Jeff and especially Ryno- THANK YOU GUYS so much for the help!!!!!!

SCORE! looks like i'm gonna need to make owning that 48' merc convertable a reality. these era cars are great because you can bring your passengers along to enjoy the trip, the earlier stuff is cool but lacks the room to be comfortable. this one a keeper.

Thats the part I was most stoked about! Ask Marcy, Titus, my Brother or Allison about the burnout it did getting up my driveway!

Am doing my best to lock down this rusty 68 cadillac convertible in the next town for a summer beater, but the guy is playing tough... asking in the 4 digits for it ... and it's RUFF. glad you got a ragtop... always fun.
