It has come to my attention over the last few years that Oldsmobile valve cover or showing up on Chevy motors. Olds motors were the hottest motors years ago and a lot of hot rodders used then. Then along came the Chevy's. I have a idea what has been happening. I can only guess that when building a motor the Olds valve covers and the Chevy valve covers were setting on a shelve togather. Or maybe it was dark or at night when the valve covers were being installed. Or maybe a good looking chick walked by distracking the builder when he was reaching for the valve covers. I know there has to be a good reason why Olds valve covers are being put on Chevy motors. So please! Please! be so very careful When installing valve covers. Us Olds guys might need them some day.
You do know that what is happening is that the aftermarket has made an Olds look alike to fit the SBC and that's what you are seeing. They're even called Fauxmobile
I love seeing the fauxsmobile valve covers with 4 ports in the exhaust... I just shake my head and walk away...
I can understand someone making a mistake, and installing Olds valve covers. What I can't understand are those that install FAKE Hemi valve covers,or a fake flathead cover(yes I have seen one). A friend of mine put a Ford Thunderbird emblem on his Chevy engine valve covers. He claimed he thought he bought a Ford engine, yeh right,he is a local Chevy expert, retired from GM engineering. When ever I see a pair of Olds valve covers,I count the exhaust ports,if it has 4 on one side I keep walking without stopping. One Chevy owner was so determined to hide his Chevy engine,he made a Siamese center port, resulting in just 3 exhaust pipes per side, fooled me for about 10 seconds.
Hey If you want to have an Olds (303) in your rod for real, buy the one I have for sale in the cl***ifieds.Nothings wrong with running that chevy why pretend???
I've kinda thought this whole make something look like it's not thing is kinda like rolling up a sock and putting it in your gym shorts.
Thought it was just to **** them boy-racers in, at the lights. But I guess Ford covers would be a more appropriate disguise.
I do know a guy that put Ford Cobra valve covers on a chevy motor. The car never ran right. Had distributor problems.
I saw Billy lane put some on a small block one time. He welded two 1/4" bolts on top of steel small block valve covers and then dropped the olds valve covers over the studs and bolted them down. As he said... don't have time to swap motors and i had these cool olds covers.. so zap, zip... done. I think it was on this truck...
Hey,,,sometimes people just get stuck on stupid. I mean hey, lets put a set of packard valve covers on a Mercury and call a Mercard or Pacmerury
Doesnt upset me, just makes me laugh at the ***** who put tasteless bolt-on garbage on his car. Sorta like those fake plastic crower BB chevy injector stacks. But hey, if you like to look like a total loser, well, more power to ya. Hell, I need a good laugh now and then...Oooopps! Inner voice...
I recently saw some dude that put Caddy hubcaps on his Ford F1. What a ****, does he really think anyone will believe his F1 is really a Caddy?? The nerve of some people.
