I think the typical definition for a "streetrod" is pre 1949....to me a hot rod is a car that is modified for performance, the year guidlines still apply somewhat, but not as strictly.....For example, the GTO posted earlier is definately a muscle car, but most anything pre 64, other than the beginnings of the muscle car era can be a hot rod...it's about the stance and attitude.....tell me "shakey puddin" isn't a hotrod....

Here's mine, not as mean as the car above, but it's fast enough for me....

  3. So good to see a couple of Kiwi cars made the list. I too believe that a Hot Rod should be pre 48 only and am surprised nobody has listed this car up as for me it screams ......fast,drivable, fun, exciting.

I remember a certain street race down in South Texas ...83-84 time frame. There was a car like this that raced a buddy of mines 66 427 fairlane.

Iv seen it three times in person …. years ago.
Somewhere in storage iv got some photos of it.
I recall it has what looks to be an early funny car style round tube ladder frame.

Basically it’s a detuned late fuel altered with a chopped steel coupe body and a radiator

Just a more dedicated / closer to a real full on drag car than Coles …. IMO …. and I grew up around that evil black thing drivin around town. Hell yes its bad ass and yes way up there on the list.

    BTW
Thats not the same car next to Coles in your photo.

I would have to agree, that's a muscle car straight out of the box with no modifications, not a hot rod...

For me, this photo defines hot rods. Doing what they're supposed to do and owners who aren't afraid of a paint chip.

Awesome cars on here but I can't post a picture of my definition of a hot rod because I'm still painting it....and will be for a long time!

  24. Yes! This is it!

  25. I absolutely love these two cars but you should add you car as well... because it is a Hot Rod!

I posted a little more on this car back on post 285 of this thread. All mainly just magazine scans. I'd love to see some more nice pics of this car. I've been in love with this thing since the first time I saw it. It is the epitome of badass!

I'm with you. In the beginning (1940's) If a 'real' hot rod was a stripped down roadster that was primarily used for racing on the salt flats what are all the other so called hot rods? I reckon this could make a really good thread. It needs the input of some guys from the era to put their side of it. I'm sure as each decade comes & goes from then that there are subtle changes that change the 'face' of a real hot rod!
