After we get it insulated I plan on putting the A/C back in the Merc. I'm still fighting color
choices right now. The Merc could end up with a dark color so we want to make sure it
will be ready for the heat. Driving back into that sun on the way home would suck. I guess
that it takes a real kustom guy to fight that sun and still look kool.

I thought that it was more "wet" then "dry"? Sorry, I must have forgot...

Green is one the list, My fear is I would be considered a "Toad" wanna be. Don't know
if I can live up to those standards.....

Don't worry about living up to the Toads standards. Just think about all the beautiful girls looking for their prince.

I thot kustoms were supposed to be painted brightly...isn't that one of those unwritten rules...??? How can you see slinky curves and reflective surfaces when everything is dark...

I looked at a solid black chopped '48 Chevy coop yesterday in Pueblo (temp: 100 degrees at the time, 2:00 in the afternoon) at the NSRA Nats...the inside of the roof was covered in two layers of that shiny silver "insulation" (no door panels or headliner...yet...and seats were dark gray). I stuck my hand/arm inside to check the temp difference (explaining to my bro how dark cars are always hotter inside) and pulled it back out blistered up to the elbow...and we have a "dry" heat around here...!!!

In other words, carefully consider your color choices, Mick...

Well my white Galaxie with a red roof was fairly toasty inside over the weekend, time to find a new compressor & get the a/c recharged. Oh and I've heard reports that the new 75 mph interstate speed limit signs are going up today, so you all can get here quicker! 4 weeks out!

Thanks for the kind words. I like it dark, it just sucks sometimes. I remember years ago, I
was stuck in Branson traffic in the middle of summer and I was about to die. People smiling
at me, giving me thumbs up and waiving, wait a minute, maybe they were making fun of me
saying look that that dummy burning up in that old car. LOL!!

I have a huge list of colors from bright to dark, wild to mild. I'm glad that
I'm not ready to make the decision. It is going to be tough for me to decide.
which color.. Thanks for the advice.

Green is kooling. You can set in my Olds on a 100* day and shivers will run up your spine.

Isn't Salina north of Dewey? Then why is it always hotter in Salina? It is
only 102 here today.. Funny thing is when I'm at the Spectaular I don't
notice the heat. I stay in the shade all day and drink a lot of water. Man
I can't wait to get up there. Looking forward to meet Junior Conway. That
is going to be soo kool....

Okay, I know that there's already a ton of stuff going on that weekend but let me add 1 more option:) It's not tradtional hot rod or kustom based but I think that some of you will still find it super kool! Plus we'll do it at the height of the day so we can all get into some air conditioning on Thursday afternoon. I'll lead us all from the park about 6 blocks west to the first stop.

A friend of mine owns Acoustic Sounds, the world's largest supplier of high end vinyl records and some ultra high end home audio equipment. The same kat owns an old church that's been retrofitted into Blue Heaven Studios. BHS is full of vintage equipment including a Neve cutting lathe so we can cut direct to the master record right in the studio. Very few studios in the world can still cut records and we do it direct to disk for the cleanest sound possible. We've even been brave/dumb enough to do it with over 400 people in the audience, talk about an uncontrolled recording environment! We'll start with a tour of this kool 1920's era church turned studio where I spent a good portion of the last 10 years on the weekends.

Then we'll head up the street another 6 or so blocks to Chad's new record pressing plant Quality Record Pressings. We're now able to go straight from an artist on our stage to a finalized and ready to ship record and never leave Salina. The new plant is just now coming on line, so I haven't even been there yet. I don't know about the a/c here, it takes some heat to liquify the vinyl, so it may be warm in the plant.

Across the street is the Acoustic Sounds office, where you can listen to an example of one of these direct to disk recordings on a sound system that cost a couple of times what my house cost me.:) It's an experience to hear one of these systems, one that is very hard to describe.

I know that the tour will be over at 5pm because some of the crew there is heading down to Wichita to see Tab Benoit perform that evening, so we'll all be able to go out to Bright Built's or wherever afterwards.

If anyone's interested in going, P.M. me, I will go alone if nobody wants to check it out (well I'll skip the Studio, I know that joint inside and out).

Just saw a flyer in a local drinking establishment that was promoting the show. The flyer mentioned a cruise from 8-9 PM on the Thursday of the KKOA weekend on old Santa Fe, I'll find out more info and let ya all know!

Didn't know if ya guys missed it but Junior Conway is going to be in Salina this
year. This will be his first time to attend the event so I can't wait to meet him.
Kustom Kemps of America does a great job keeping the real kustom history alive.

Hey Jerry, is it time yet? Are we almost there? I can't wait to drive up.

Hey guys, I hate to say this but, Junior isn't going to be there. He told me awhile back that he has a car thats valued at 7 million that he's just started to restore for a customer. He's told Jerry that he can't make it because of the demands on him regarding this job. Jerry has asked Joe Bailon to come instead and he's accepted. Sorry.

As much as I would like to see it be not so hot, I would hate to see too much rain. The park would be a mess I think. Hopefully we will get a nice cold front to push through on Thursday morning. :)
