You fence crows can yammer all you want... LOL. I had fun, met a ton of cool people, and saw some awesome cars. It only happens once a year and if you can't afford to go, you should probably just stay home. The overall vibe is always a good one and I think it went fairly well considering the constant bleak forecast and new date....

Everybody I talked to was scared it wasn't going to happen again and said it was their favorite show of the year for the area....

I pointed Slim's car out to the guy who had that pick (neat piece,) was diggin' Keith's '37 for the Kustom of the Year, and picked a very happy Jon's Mercury-powered '26 Roadster for the Gazette pick. I liked the strong concentration of lead sleds.. New York is chopped Merc country.

My favorite quote of the weekend came from a little kid of about 12 or so with his family and several sisters, and he was trying to look at all the cars and they were blasting through, and he yells: "It's called a CAR SHOW, not a CAR WALK THROUGH."

I thought it was awesome.. Take some time and soak up the cars that are there... They are all gone on Monday and it's back to the rat race.

I was born and raised in Rhinebeck. I had recently heard the Fairgrounds ***n had talked to the folks who put on the big swap meet first weekend in May (have for many years) and want to put the arm on them for a lot more money. May be iffy if that swap meet stays there. As for the food, some years ago the Fair ***n banned all outside groceries for food stands, you had to buy your ingrediants through the Fair, rather than bring your own. Fair ***n got a percentage of the food cost that way. That was the end of the great sausage sandwiches we used to get every year at the County Fair there, no longer could the vendors use anything but generic sausage. Quality went down, prices went up because demand became less. So I am not surprised that GG will pay more to have the 2012 event and that may be the beginning of the end. Nice fairgrounds but.....

We had an awesome time towin the Scotty camper out to the show down Rt-7...what an awesome ride, then campin with awesome peeps in great weather, but then the best part was that I ended up takin home 2 awards. It doesn't get any better than that!
I was lucky enough to get the Kustom of the Year Finalist award, and also a Street Rodder Top 100 Pick...WOW!!!

Thanks for the kind words, hemi.

Lead sled,I saw your car a few years ago at the road agent show in prime and saw it again this weekend at the show.
My buddy larry who has been at it and i respect his word as gospel said to me as we looked it over, i quote This is how a car should be done.
I also seen it at the diner when i was heading back home sat nite.
I must say you did a outstanding job on this car at every angle and at all levels.
You deserve any and all awards you get.
I only wished i had seen it with the trailer,Good luck and many miles under your wheels.

Seems like the folks who work for gg still dont get it! A show that was once 2000+ cars strong lucky now to break 1000. Huge empty spaces everywhere and they say if you dont like it stay home. Well guess what, that is exactly what happened. I am glad I saw that Y block T though!

Getting to see your Coupe for the first time was one of the Rhinebeck highlights for me. Every time I walked around it you were gone, maybe next year we'll bump into each other.

  20. Thanks for all the pics and talk about the show at Rhinebeck. I used to live in Phoughkeepsie, went to them all until 2000.I always enjoyed it.

Thanks again everyone...but I want to extend a very special thank you to the crew at Goodguys who chose my car as a finalist for the Kustom of the year, and also a very special thank you to our big guy Chuck Vranas from Street Rodder Magazine who chose me to be part of the Street Rodder Top 100. You guys are all the very best...Thank You!:D:D

Sorry I missed you, Michelle and I were all over the place. I bring a chair to events and it almost always stays in my trunk! Yep, we'll make it a point to catch each other next year.

Come on, Brian, that thong will fit a lot better without all that cheese...just look at me! haha
It was great hangin with guys also, we always have a ball!

I too, need to add my Thanks, to Chuck Vranas, who also chose my Coupe as part of the Street Rodder Top 100. Unfortunately, wasn't able to hang around for Sunday, because of my Dad's health issues. There really seemed to be a HAMB slant to the Great cars that were having the Top 100 honor bestowed on them by Chuck. As stated previously, in an earlier Post, there were a lot of Great cars in the HAMB genre in attendance.

I usually love going to Rhinebeck and camping for the weekend. It was just too expensive for me this year, though.

As far as I'm concerned the tickets at the gate are too expensive! I live here and the Fairgrounds is 3 miles from my house. I am involved in the Century Museum at the Fairgrounds and volunteer at the Dutchess County Fair in August and have spaces at the May HRVAAA Swap Meet and Show. I have a BBQ during that show that I put on. A lot of you know me and have stopped by. During the GG I have helped numerous rodders that have broken down and needed a hand. It kills me to hear that people aren't coming because of the inflated cost. Instead of *****in here, write
(not e-mail) GG and state your displeasure and write the Fairgrounds at
    Contact Information, Hours, Location

    The Dutchess County Fairgrounds

    Postal Address
    PO Box 389
    Rhinebeck, New York 12572

and tell them what you have said here. I don't know how many of you that live near a large car event but for 3 or so days the place is alive with hot rods and car people, I would hate to see this come to an end, and mind you it costs me just as much as you except for lodging. So make your voice heard.

    Thanks for listening

    Pat

Its not going anywhere. . The Fairgrounds might try to gouge more money but the alternative is zero income and Bob Grimm (fairgrounds biggie) is not that dumb.
