I don't see how you can get anything done in that shop.

    Nice shop CHOPPA

  8. Cool project, great drivetrain combo, I'm in - looking forward to more updates.

  9. I made a little progress today. I got a free 28/29 door from a really nice guy here in Gilbert. Sam is his name. it had some rust but I thought I could go ahead and replace pieces on my door with pieces from the freebee door....nope it's rusted almost as bad as my door, I took a wire wheel to the freebe door and it had weak thin metal and almost melted away as I wire wheeled it, back to the drawing board. On a high note my "F-Bomb" made it into a magazine, It's a pat on the back for me. See page 24 and 27 of Rebel Rodz magazine.
I made a tool today to remove hinge pins on old rusted out model A doors. A little heat on the hinge pin itself followed by the tool and wa la door is off!![IMG]

I'll be following along.. Looks almost like mine.. minus the semi crushed roof from a
    roll over.. :)

  12. Richters...they could be twins! Yours is in better shape though. Will you be using the flathead for power? Get that thing started!!! ;)

I know.. I know.. I'm working on just stashing parts for now.. Trying to sell
a house, and get a new one built, along with a new shop. I keep trying to
slip in parts, but the wife is keeping an eye on me.. :) Picked up the
flathead for Father's Day, and nabbed two Holley 94's off of ebay. As soon
as I get the new place, I will be going full steam.

  14. I had a great weekend, Thanks to the soldiers who gave the ultimate sacrifice for all of us. I would like to thank my son also for serving right now in south Korea, love ya Tyler!!

I was able to tear down the rest of the Caddy motor...well almost, the piston is still stuck.....geeez. I hope it falls out soon. I guess I have to be patient. I also was able to remove the torch cut hinges from the driver door. I found a big tear behind the lower hinge and welded it up. To those of you thinking about doing something like this....try and find a good door to start with, I have a ton of time in it and it isn't even close yet. I am glad I'm getting all this experience ;)
I found a passenger side door on eBay and won the auction. it's way better than the one I had for it originally.....more updates to follow. On a side note I found out I'm going to the LA roadster show with my dad this fathers day, I can hardly wait!!

  15. I was at the Glendale swap meet the other day and found some really cool head lights. I started talking to the guy selling them and he said they came off an old fire truck which perked my interest. They had some really nice patina on them. The guy said they were brass. I loved them and bought them, took them home and sure enough they are brass, I am going to DE-tarnish them and probably use them on the Tudor. The guy I bought them from was a firefighter from Detroit area and had been for 32 years, he's been retired for 14 years, super nice fella. I am still working on the friggin piston that is locked and I mean locked in the case, I am at the point now of bashing it with a hammer breaking small pieces at a time, I will succeed even if it takes a week of bashing. Had a small accident in the shop also, I am sure glad I'm a Paramedic and was able to stop the bleeding :0. On a side note I am going (with my dad) to the L. A. Roadster show and can't get there fast enough....stay tuned.

Cool build from a fellow Paramedic.

  17. I got the piston out and the block and crank are at the machine shop. It looks like the engine will be able to work so that was some good news. While I was at the LARS this past weekend I found some goodies for the Tudor. As far as work on the car I have just been trying to polish the cool brass firetruck headlights I found a few weeks ago.

I searched on the internet about polishing brass and removing the tarnish, I found a recipe for removing hard black tarnish which worked pretty well, You mix lemon juice with salt and add some flour, it makes a paste and you just apply it to the brass item and let it sit, I let the one headlight bucket sit about 4 days and it took a lot of the nasty tarnish off.
It's easy to tell if the item is brass plated or solid brass, You use a magnet, if the item is attracked to the magnet it's plated brass, if it does not attract then it is solid brass. Lots of elbow grease here to get it ready for polish and lacquer.

I found a few really cool Cadillac goodies at the LA roadster show. If you have never been you need to go, I feel it's the best swap I have attended to date.

Those headlights are the bees knees! Now you need to come up with a cool brass radiator ornament to tie it all together.......

  20. That's a great idea nik, I am going to work on that.
@kerry......you know who that is....he even thought the parts were cool!

That must have been "running" pretty poorly when he pulled it... How many times have I heard someone say that about an engine???

  23. Amen brother......I was pretty excited about finding it, the price wasn't to bad and I have a great machinist.

  24. It sat outside on a cart leaning on one side and number 4 cylinder just had to have its valve open. Oh well.......I think I can fix it

its good to know there is someone working on a rod out by my sister.. keep up the good work.

  26. we have been working on J's truck so I lost a couple of days to work on the Tudor, however I did manage to squeeze in a few hours on it today. We located and fabed in the Rear on J's frame, it's looking good, I am sure we will redo it because it sets way to high for his liking. I decided to replace the lower cowl portion (on the drivers side) where it was rusted out. Measure twice cut once....yeah right:eek:

I had to fabricate a inner support for the cowl, As I was cutting out the rusted outer portion of the cowl it was apparent that the inner part was wasted also. I used the lower part of the doors from my $at $od I had cut off which worked great. I knew I kept that crap for a reason:D. The inner support was plug welded in and it is looking good for a start, sometimes I wonder why I start with such rusted out cars, I guess I am learning as I go!

  27. Even though it was 116 F. here today I managed to almost complete the cowl replacement panel, weld, grind and hammer then repeat ;)[IMG]

  28. What....more rust??? I found some rust in the windshield frame, I don't see it anymore!!!. I got tired of working on the body and stumbled across the windshield frame and decided to work on it for a while. A big thanks to Kerry67 for stopping by today even though it was hot as F&*k here in the QC.
