Projects 59 El Camino.. Build Pics

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by J.Fishbeck, Jan 2, 2010.

  1. So jamming up the internet (had plenty of time to do so, lately!) I've learned even the 250hp/327 has 10.5:1 comp. I assumed, the compression was lower. So now it's going to be closer to the 300hp version, w/ the 600 AFB, 461 dbl humps & 2.5" Ramhorns.

Other news.. The Dougs Headers on my 55, "will" fit the angle plug AFR heads I have. I was worried they wouldn't. Good to know!

Yep. the early '70s when the squeeze was dropped. What cam/lift are you toying with Jay-Jay?

  3. Its all the orig std.(nothing bored or cut) gm parts, besides the new piston rings. So I'm not changing anything. Actually want this thing to be quiet. Turbo mufflers with glasspacks used as extra resonators. All going thru, 2.25" exhaust tubing!

    Coming along nicely!

  6. I'm back at it today.. That feels good in it self! It's not one hundred, but it works!

Thanks, it's been slow and not so sure, lately! But we keep it movin'!

  7. Lunch time update.. W/P is on, heads are torqued down to 68ft lbs, an I picked up some more of Fords RTV sealant, 'TA30'. Best stuff ever! The pushrods are in, and the rockers are snugged down.. forgot to take the pic!

The intake will be on after lunch.. and whatever other acc. I can get out of here, an on there!

  8. When I get home I'll take a pic of all my bag stuff in the smugglers compartment, It fit great for me, although I do have it hinged for access.

I put 4 individual toggle switches in the ashtray but kept the cigarette lighter.

The air pressure gages are in a 4gage moon pod under the dash, a dual needle for front a dual needle for the back, a tank pressure and engine vacuume

  9. Yeah, pics would be great! I was thinking I have room behind the gas tank, on the underside of the bed. I might be able to get away with it. Vee Vill See!

  10. I put my full size spare behind the gas tank under the bed. It even fits between the hitch brackets with no problem.

I also poked an A/C vent through my radio opening.

  11. I see there's enough clearance between the bed floor and the tanks. Enough, anyways! I'm not gonna carry a spare (Eeeeeewwww, such a rebel! Actually it's just AAA) I have too much time in my bedfloor, so I don't wanna cut it up and hinge it. Plus, I'm lazy! Thanks for the pics..

I like the Chevy 'Script' covers, better.. I'll keep the Corvettes, on my 55!

Not happy with this "Speedway" (not made in America) 2.5" exh manifold. For $40 I can't complain! (Oh, but I am!) Wow!

There's not enough clearance, for the washers. Not cool, so tomorrow that gets some attention!

  13. Yep, that and the Makita Electric Die Grinder! I shall wield and overcome, the dumb fucking things people do, when they design things they have no idea about! There, I feel better! Hahaha

Design ? Thats a monkey see monkey do sand box project. We would have gotten marks off our grade in metalshop for having a core shift in the mold.

  15. Whats the deal on the late model "anteater" water pump?
    283 needs a shorty

  16. My super special alt brkt, requires the long pump! I don't like it anymore than you do. I did put the correct heads on there.. so the w/p is the lesser of the two evils. And when did this down grade, happen? I thought it was a 64' 327, but now it's an ant-eating 283!? Damn, I hate when that happens..

We'll I have to get some sleep, now.. I have to go para-sailing with celebrities, in the morning! Peace

  17. Tired of buying these brkts, I made patterns..

    Then the exhausting work began..

Then I decided to remove the stock alternator mounting provision. Arrow shows it before I 'minused' it!

I ran into the back plates, bolt provision.. Oops!

(No one will ever even notice I cut it off) The green arrow shows where I had to remove metal, to use the brkt that's required when there aren't any acc holes!

I've been driving my Dads 55, lately! Today, I had to shoot thru to the hardware store.

I appreciate this view.. the way the hood dips down into the fenders! Driving a 7 all the time, you really notice the difference!

Jay if I ever get my Ass to Riverside to Tuxies I'll show you how I did a short W/P with long W/P pulleys. Made my own alt bracket that looks like what you got there, but the pivot point is on the bottom. I didn't want the short pump police on my ass :D.

  19. The 8th of next month, I will definitely be at Tuxies. So yeah, I wanna check that out.. w/o the w/p pigs bustin' balls!

  20. The 2500 & 2600 Slam Specialties bags, showed up today! I always need more to do.. always!

good lookin motor, even with the chinese manifolds and the long w/p! hahaha just had to bust some balls!

  22. We only had the one, GM 2.5" manifold.. The other came from 'overseas'! I too, like the swp. I am just not a fan of stock alternator brackets. Maybe someday, I'll find a solution!

I noticed that you clearanced these with a die grinder , but you can sometimes use an allen headed fastener with a smaller diameter washer under the head, even a specially ground/ shaped thicker washer to help spread the load, some european cars come with these cut off washers as standard issue.
Keep up the good work, love this thread.

Hey J, Having lived in San Berdoo all my life, I am very familiar with the Heckle and Jeckle name. I'll take 2 in Xl please.

  28. Thanks for the compliment! I thought about using alternative hardware, but decided against it. It was cheaper to clearance the manifold!

  29. I am going to get the ball rolling, this week! Already in the works, as we speak! I'm a happy man!

That's a will do! It was cool seeing your wagon at the Arrowhead Lanes, OTHG show! I actually got my Dad to come with me, to that show. Look forward to meeting you.. Jay

I just had to give you some grief, but what do I know, I put a chevy in my ford!! I like to make my own brackets just cause I dont like stock and cant stand most of the aftermarket stuff out there. I like to see my motor, not my alternator and a/c compressor!!
