I don't see so many Texaco stations in Los Angeles any more. Used to work at one in San Fernando on Old Route 99 (Truman St.) when I was 16-17. Had 2 pumps on a diesel island. Man when those belly dumps came in to refuel, I loved to stand there and hear them idle. Its was the late 70's, but construction trucks are all old timers. We had them all come in... 60's Pete's, KW's, IH's, One was an old '63 Autocar, one was a '59 KW! Most had twin sticks and old 220 Cummin's; or an 8V-71 Detroit. Man those were the days.

I threw in the kitty cat pic cos it's just too cute :)

Yeah, sadly Chevron bought Texaco in 2000 and has closed tons of Texaco stations since then.

    The cat picture is great!

I would venture a guess that these photos depict manufacture by Ford of German V-1 "buzz bomb" engines for military testing and evaluation using captured intact V-1s as a guide.

    Yep. This is a 'Ford-USA - built 'PJ31' pulse
jet - made by Ford., circa 1944-'45. It was
intended to power the Republic Aircraft
"JB2 - Loon" missile and was a slightly scaled
down, but otherwise, nearly exact copy of
the German-made 'Argus' pulse jet, used
in the V1 misile. The Ford PJ31 engine and
the Loon missile were intended to be used
in the war against Japan, but the war
ended before they could be deployed. Several
Ford PJ31 engines have survived as display
items in various museums - and a NOS one,
still in it's original shipping canister, even
showed up on ebay a couple of years ago
and I think, sold for less then $2000!

The little harley was made by Aermacchi in Italy and the building in the background is the War Memorial overlooking Lake Michigan.

All the jet engine pics are dated November 13 1944, so all are from Willow Run Production as such.

The pic may show testing and fine tuning of the engine, perhaps in an effort to improve the design or possibly engines were randomly pulled from the line in order to check quality control/functionality.

Supporting pics from the same set show hundreds of bombs in production so this shot in particular only depicts testing of a single Ford built unit from the production line.

Further pics from that same day/set show girls at a well stocked line assembling the components that would go into the unmanned missile.

Using a little logic, Ford placed just enough personnel into each line/sub-line to manufacture exactly the amount of parts needed to support the actual production of the unit as a whole.

If the table of parts (above) is one shifts production (or part of) then that could be considered equal to the amount of jet engines produced on that date at that time. -one shift/days production

    Fortunately - or perhaps unfortunately
    - depending on ones point of view and
    degree of insanity:)eek::eek:) - it wasn't
the missile for sale on ebay...it was just a
NOS Ford-built PJ31 engine for one!

P.S.- I just did a quick Google search and
    this came up too.

That was the building used in the movie "Xanadu" with Olivia Newton-John.

Maybe '60s. I surely don't remember anything this keen in the '50s.

A familiar sight on my grandfather's farm. I have described this to many people, and few have even seen a cow milked, let alone by hand in a barn, with the barn cats greedily looking on.

Yes, "Mac" was a trained military stratigest from the WWI era & knew how to win wars!
If "Harry ass Truman" would have not tried to win the Korean war from the safety of the armchair in the white house, 'ol Mac would have blown the enemy away with the "new" atomic bomb all the way to the Russian border!
America could have once again held her head high for winning that fiasco, instead of settling for a truce at Panmunjom in 1953.
Mac's way was the right way, & had he used the A-Bomb, there would have never been a Vietnam disgrace---Or any other military action, where America has been called a "paper tiger".------Don (Korean vet)

That is the Pan Pacific Auditorium in Los Angeles. It was the major venue for Motoramas and other car shows, circuses, conventions, you name it for decades. We used to go there all the time in the '50's. Sadly, it burned in 1989.

Isn't it neat how they can do everything upside down?
