  7. Does a 1948 champion have the same front end as a 50 ? Or is the 48 more like the 47? I dont know much about these and I couldnt find any decent pictures of a 1948.

  8. '47-49 Stude front end styling stayed quite similar. The bullet nose Studes are '50 and '51 only. Same body for the '52 cars but the bullet nose had been replaced with something much more mundane.

My "dealer custom" '53 Commander Starlight coupe. The continental kit and almost all the accessories were added at the dealer when the car was new. I added a couple more. The car now has 29K miles.

"Desperation is a stinky cologne". Was that a Ford bed Stude was using to turn these out? The Lark styled cab lends to good looking truck at least in the front.

I believe they are Dodge, although I've also heard International. Very similar. Definitely not Ford from all I've heard and read though.

YEP. you got it. sweptline sourced, stude specific tailgate, known as a p2 box (p1's were carried over from earlier models)

Hooley recently ran the #974 at the Texas Mile and set a record. Here is a link to the newspaper article and a short video of his take off. He will run there again this fall. http://greencountrynews.com/sports page.html

  21. As an owner I'm obvious too close to it to be objective, but I think it works in a funky-cool way typical of many Studebaker projects. I get a LOT of questions about it though, so its obviously a bit off.

Otis Romine was the designer who chose this Budd-tooled ex-dodge bed to give the little truck the width needed back in the early 60s when these were launched. It was a "P2" bed. You also see these trucks often with the ealier rounded beds - the "P1" i believe - and it doesn't match the squarish Lark cab as well.

I've seen some nicer beds on foreign 60s Champs. I believe those are fiberglass and were never offered in the states. I may be corrected on this point:)

Could be a fun project some day to pick up a spare bed and see what might be possible. Some Lark wagons have been converted to "caminos" and look pretty sweet.

Other funny issues - the 'dropped' front bumper is a bit odd and the rear bumper is full height in the center blocking access to the ball. I have plans to modify both bumpers slightly.

the seat is also raised off the floor on 2" wood blocks so it can clear some changes required in the cab. I'm assuming studebaker didn't have the tooling funds to make either dedicated bases for the truck seat or even metal risers to raise the sedan seat. Oak...

Finally sorted the charging system after tinkering with it for a few months and went for a sweet little drive in it this evening. Waves, honks, and thumbs up from locals and tourists alike.

    Its a friendly truck... Happy 4th y'all.
