A velour nightmare. I'd be having a nice little chat with the upholsterer if he came up with an interior like that and wanted money for it.

Previous owner had to replace rocker panels, quarter panels and headlight brows so it obviously had rust problems. If, and that's a big IF, that sunroof was installed when the car was new, it's definitely got some rust issues under that top. My guess is it was done in the 1980's with the restoration.

Wow. Just jumped from 10k to over 22,000 by two bidders. One with ZERO feedback and one with ONE total feedback. Wonder where they came from?

    Interesting car but...

you guys are missing the big picture here. Any time an ad is written all in caps the car is a pristine jewel worth twice what the seller is asking. Never question the caps lock key.

At least the thread title reads better than the ad for it. Rare ?, no. If it came from GM that way, ok, but it didn't. Bolt on iteam and mods don't make it gold.

It would probably sell for a few K more, if he took the wheels and interior and dumped them in a trash bin.....
only real piece of interest is the kph speedo... I bet there are some canadians that would love to have that.

I agree with the non factory options opinion. I also am leery when the seller's spelling is incorrect. I wonder if the bidders did any research into the car or are they just taking his word on it.

I´ll chime in here, maybe I can contribute a little bit.
I´m sure this 55 was built in Europe , probably the Netherlands or Belgium, cause it has a lot of little details typical for European built American cars. The column lock was required by the German authorities, the km/h speedo, the sunroof and the altered interior proof that too. The make of the sunroof could also be GÜDE or GOLDE besides Webasto.
There´s also an old paperback German Kraftfahrzeugbrief, that says the Chevy has been registered in Heilbronn and the last German owner was from Munich,( the plate was M-ZS 837.) The company this Chevy was registered to on October 18th 1955 was "Tuchel -Kontakte" from Heilbronn, I think they were producing electrical switches, as far as I can read the text .
A 55 Chevy Coupe in after war Germany was more luxurious than you can imagine. Most average people were riding bicycles , little scooters or bikes. More wealthy persons like Architects and Doctors were seen in VW Bugs, Opels and Mercedes´ if they were real rich, but an American Car was out of reach like a Maybach or Bentley is today.

A stock 6 Cyl, 3 speed 55 4dr was a luxury car in Germany back then, now figure what impact a modified hardtop coupe mus have made .

Knock it off you guys I'm trying to get a bid in here. :D I'd love to have that chevy, cruising with the top open and all wadded up like a VW top. "Yeah, hand me that root beer over the top".

Yeah, reading that made my head hurt. Almost as much as looking at the most gawd awful wheels you could put on an old Chevy.

I don't doubt those items were on the car when the original owner purchased it new, but I doubt they were done at Chevrolet for export. I've seen a couple other later Chevrolets that were sold new overseas with similar changes, and my guess is they were custom additions from the importer or dealership in Europe.
There was a first generation '67 or '68 Camaro around that had a "factory" sunroof similar to that once, and original paperwork showing it on the car when purchased new somewhere in Europe. Nothing that showed it coming from GM though.

    Low blow. Let him RIP.

Looks nothing like what Boyd would have done to a 55.

That interior is god awful. Some trailer home somewhere is missing it's curtains. The history of the car is cool though.

That makes sense. And it is an interesting car because of that.

But the seller's story is still a load of bunk...

That hat must have belonged to the last owner in Munich ,Bavaria. My grandpa had one just like it...

  26. Car was a 6 cylinder originally. It's missing the V emblems under the tail-lamps. It also has an AM radio. Did they have AM stations in Germany?

  27. a person like this boasting these claims is a huge DUMBFUCK! if this car sells the new owner will likely keep it locked away after the huge amount of shit they are gonna be fed about it.

Im wondering how the guy could have spent 10 yrs. in Germany, when the average tour was 14/18 months. With VIET NAM going on full tilt at the same time, he must have been a gutless sumbitch........
