Just finished my rewire of Sally. Used the 9 + 3 Rebel Wiring kit. I am very happy with this kit.

American autowire is really nice. The harness terminates at the fuse box instead of the component. Makes for a simple, neat install

I used the same kit in my 57 and thought it was a breeze. Easy install for the most part. Directions were a little vague at times but it helped to have an original wiring diagram.

Does anyone make a universal wire harness that uses the cloth covered wires?

Rebel was what I chose to use on an IH Scout project, years ago. Good quality wires.

I've used REBEl kits on my last 2 cars. Love them!

  11. I just installed an American Auto Wire kit and like it because you run your own wires from fuse box to accy/switch/etc. This eliminates modifying someone elses kit. (Painless, etc). I also believe they have a kit with all cloth sheathed wires.

how difficult are they to install?i'm still in the planning stage.

  15. Not hard at all. Just run the wire to where it belongs (each wire is labeled) and hook it up. The most important part is taking your time and keeping it neat. Shoot me a PM if I can be of any help. Todd

How long are those harnesses tugmaster? I got a 68 caddy sedan and I am considering replacing all the wiring.

  17. I'm going to get the cloth wire and wire my '36 myself. You could always get a stock repo harness and add in circuits.

American Autowire -Highway 15 Nostalgia Custom/Street Rod Wiring Kit $795.00
to me the fuse box looks goofy, I have a few stock boxes (from various 60's cars) here I'm going to reuse.

I have install numerous brands of wire harness over the years and Ron Francis gets my vote for quality and ease of installation. They look and work great!

I won't use any thing but Ron Francis wiring. The harnesses that are already terminated in the fuse block,**** when it comes to tracing problems,or making changes down the road. Also Ron Francis wiring has a better color coding, and labeling. Don't ever use a kit like someone put in my duce, with all black wires, wide spacing on labels, and hidden terminals on back of fuse block. Oh yea,the Ron F kits come with a "Book" of instructions, that is fool proof.

I installed Speedways economy 12 circuit harness ($129) and it was nice and simple. Plenty of wire and marked good.

I used an E-Z Wiring harness on my 1st rewire. Went without a hitch, real pleased and a good price. Whichever/Whoever you use, take your time and get extra zipties and shrink tubing! Oh, and Summit has a great grommet ***ortment that comes in real handy.

Rebel wire is the only one Made In America. There is no other I know of. Maybe a little more than some, but you pay now or will be paying later when your kids are speaking Chinese or are the Chinese cheap labor force.

  28. I don't have Rebel wire wished I did! The one I got had NO! service and was not what I ordered and NO! emails answered. Tried to save a few dollars. Get the Rebel has been #1 here for a long time.

Interesting thread. I'm just beginning to look into harnesses to put into my Merc that I am rebuilding. Since I've never rewired a car before, are there any features I need to look for, that I may not know I need? Going to put in a 6 volt Flathead, but I am considering changing to 12 volt.
