Wow, this is going to be radical. Looking forward to watching it come together.

 

Oh heck yeah! I love these kind of builds. The Atomic Punk is awesome and really opened my eyes to what can be done to crappy cars or a diverse assortment of parts if you just put a little time and ingenuity into it.

I would have never thought front fenders could make sweet rear quarters. Subscribing for sure.

started on my spring perches and got the motor pulled. Gotta clean it up for paint and new gaskets, seals ect...anyone want a 63 galaxie 500 with no motor?

 

Hauled my front end to the shop for measurements, cleanup etc....

 

little more progress, crossmember and spring perch built, just a test fit.

 

I'm likin what your doing. Tolja I'd be watchin you. Lookin good.

 

finally an update worth posting. Got the frame tacked together nice and square and was able to set the body on it tonight after doing a four inch channel in the cowl. Also cut out the gas tank/dash. Take note, the body will be sitting about 8 inches forward of where it is right now, just a quick mock-up, gotta hack of some excess on the back of the frame that i built to long for a "just in case" kinda deal. Enjoy.

Probably several months at least before paint. Time is real issue these days. I will just say 2012 is the time frame for paint, that gives me alot of cushion

 

Quick mock-up of suspension and dissassembly. Some obvious issues to take care of and see what I can save. Wishbones welded to axle, steering arm welded to spindles, and spring perches that dont wanna budge.

so I spent 4 hours on monday night removing spring perches. That was not fun. Got one out and the other soaking till next monday when I can get to it. I am not looking forward to it.

How would the tail lights from that '63 work in the new rear -- maybe too big? Cool jet aircraft nozzel shape, though.

 

Yeah, too big. Trust me, I measured plenty of times. Gonna go with 62 fairlane taillights I picked up at the Portland swap meet.

 

I use some heat with a torch on them when trying to get those old frontends apart,helps alot

 

I finally got them out, had to blow em out with the torch. Talk about a pain in the ass, currently working on cleaning up those nasty welds and fixing where the bones split from water getting in them and freezing, will post pics soon.

 

Ok, It's been a while since I posted anything, I've been busy getting this front end the way I wanted it, (grinding and filing the casting marks off the axle and wishbones) and everything is just tacked into place for now, this is just a mock-up. Also built a jig and reversed the main leaf following instructions from a thread I found here on the H.A.M.B. Its waaaaaaaaaaaay easier than I thought it would be.

 

Just a quick mock-up to determine motor mounts, body mounts, ride height, wheelbase, etc....

 

I wasn't too sure about this when I first started reading, but I'm loving the looks of this thing. Great work. When done, this is going to keep people scratching their heads for awhile.
