    So Here's my problem
My "Its too damn rainy to drive anything else" car has a padded vinyl top.
The finish is suffering from the usual ailments of a 25 year old vinyl top.
The car's too good to throw away, and the fabric isn't ripped. Is there a spray on finish that will revive it?? Feel free to mock me as long as you have a solution:rolleyes:

If it's just dried out, I've had decent results softening up old vinyl with baby oil. Not sure how well it'd work on an exterior vinyl top but you could try it.

Personally, I think padded vinyl tops are just moisture collectors and I'd rather strip it off and two-tone the car with a different colored roof rather than try to save the top, but that's personal opinion.

There are some vinyl spray on dyes available. I've used them to change color of a top in the past. Only problem I've run into is that if the vinyl is deteriorated it will show the bad areas,...kind of like a different texture than the vinyl which is fairly good.

Nothing I know of that will revive the the vinyl. Stu

There must still be the "used car dealer" overcoat for those tops. I almost think it was made by Zep?

Anyways, it was a brush on or maybe applied with sponge or rag. Like thick latex paint.

I'd try google for vinyl top reconditioning, etc

I have had good luck with "GO-JO" hand cleaner (the smooth one) and a "scotchbrite sponge". If you strip it off, paint with non-thinned paint using a household paint roller as it leaves a "nappy" finish, looks like padded top at > 10'.

A local shop cleaned up my driver which has a off white top with degreaser...ZEP and a scrub brush...I had replaced it some yars back but it darkens sitting outside. I used Preen vinyl floor finish on it and its shine up good. I try some Murphys oil soap and a brush and then maybe some Pledge spray which Just Dashes recommeds on its dashes.

  7. There are some paint on applications for things like this. I would try a marine or boat supply store and see what they have.

If the top is black you could probably paint it with Millers Tire Paint and it would fly.
