Congrats, got a 32, you got a hell of a nice car. As to the seller hate, why? I would have done the same thing - to use the cash to buy a '34 roadster.

I know what you are saying however, what I plan will be easily reversable.
Have you ever driven a car in traffic with mechanical brakes,It is not my idea of fun having a ricer jump in the gap I am leaving for braking and stop. Same goes for the 6 volt candles up front. I know there are ways to improve both of these ,I want to drive the coupe without any of these worries cheers David

David, Just a thought... What ever mods you do, I would hang onto the original parts,Just because they are the parts that have been with the coupe its whole life. If you ever want to reverse it back..You have the parts on hand.

  12. I thought this was a HOT ROD forum :)

  13. Interesting observation about leaving a week early to get there. Assuming both cars were original, I think you would have a better chance of arriving with the B. Being the first year of production the V8 had it's problems.

I'm with those who said "don't touch it"...cut up some myself but this is too much history to do anything with except wash (maybe)

Pretty hard to improve on that, maybe adjust the brakes and check the oil.

There's material and there's original cars. Hotrods are like a new painting. You can paint yours on a new canvas or over a old crappy painting, but you're not going to paint your art over a Rembrandt are you! Or you'd have to be pretty arrogant if you did.

'got a 32'- Congratulations on the buy! You're going to be ecstatic when the car lands after the long wait and I very much look forward to seeing it at Pt Fairy in January.

I think we, as enthusiasts, are obliged to preserve, maintain and create these vintage cars/hot rods. We are somewhat 'caretakers' of these vehicles/time-machines and ought to prolong this for as long as we can.

On the point of creating, we who are here on the H.A.M.B are here for what reason? We are here becuase we have a vision and an aspiration of replicating/creating and sustaining the magnificent art/hobby/lifestyle/passion of Traditional Hot Rodding.

During his youth, I bet 'got a 32' dreamed of owning a '32 Deuce Coupe highboy with a nasty flathead, wide whitewall bigs and littles and a mean 4" chop..... Just like the rest of us, to some extent.

To summarize what I said above, we should be diligent and thoughtful of what we are preserving/taking care of/creating.

Whether you like it or not, you own something very special, 'got a 32'. Although I don't regard a '32 owner any higher than a Model A owner, the '32 ford is historically significant has always attracted much attention and value.

You are not only obliged to preserve this marvelous original '32 Ford, but you are also obliged to fulfill your own endeavors..... I know what I'd be doing. But you are going to have to find the right balance with this one and from what you've proposed, you have hit the nail on the head- very similar route as to what I'd be doing! You're going to have to find the right balance.

However, I would not at all question your endeavors if they were to give this 5 window an all out Hot Rod treatment.

Good luck on your journey and keep us posted.

    HC.

Here is an all original '32 5w coupe which was at Chopped in Newstead (Victoria, Australia) last year. A perfect example of what I have tried to describe in my post above. A well preserved Deuce Hop Up. It demands appreciation for it's originality, but is perfectly blended in with some tasteful period modifications- stance, wheels/tires and drivetrain.
