History Drag cars in motion.......picture thread.

there was an article in either Super Stock and Drag Illustrated or Bracket Racing USA about this truck and it's current condition(90's). i think at the time of the article it was sponsored by Pete's Wicked Ale and it was orange in color. other than the Chevy stepside fenders on the bed it looked pretty good.

 

Interesting that it says Pontiac V-8 and is running twin Buicks. Looks like Jack Chrisman?

 

those are Pontiacs and that is Jack, ..........

 

I am pretty sure that these engines are not both the same. I believe that one is a Pontiac and the other is an Olds or Buick. This combo was also ran with a single front mounted blower with a Hilborn 4 port under the blower. For sure it is Jack Chrisman driving Mickey Thompson's car.

 

I think we take for granted the "stones" it took to get behind the wheel of some of those old diggers. Is it just me or does anyone else look at that and think NO WAY!

 

Regarding the Chrisman/ Thompson twin:

They had head gasket problems so they switched heads on one or both engines, on occasion, to be fitted with F-85 Olds heads.....

They put an Olds head on a Pontiac block?

 

Jeep Hampshire explained it to me once when I brought him a F-85 short block, the Buick and Pontiac blocks were almost identical except that you had to drill an extra hole for the Buick heads (course that was over 40 years ago so I may have gotten it screwed up)

I guess where I always get somewhat confused over this cars engine combo was in Bob Post "High Performance" book on page 78 it mentions this particular car using the aluminum Buick block and the Olds- F85 aluminum block as a source of power, thus creating a very lightweight twin.

 

Thats the kind of stuff thats going to get this thread shutdown^^^

Well at least 3 of the cars had Cragar "super trick's" on them !

 

ha, and at least two of them are "in motion" which seems to have slipped most peoples minds in this thread.

 

The "in motion" has been relaxed a bit......just enjoy the historical photos.
