That flattie looks damn solid man,..solid! What year is it? Merc or Ford? oh and the color is perfect.[/QUOTE]

It's a Ford 8BA. There's a '52 date stamped on the rear cam gear cover. I suspect it is a "replacement" sold by Ford because there are no numbers on the top right rear of the block (per Flathead Jack's info). Now that we are back to talking cars, what kind of cab are you looking for? Talking about personalities and psych shit is such a drag. Here's a pic of the evil grease monster emerging from the engine bay, giving the "Little Rascals" salute. I think that the grease and the machinery is really what the H.A.M.B is all about. The drama just seeps in sometimes. Human nature.

I'm as big a pack rat as there ever was, I just don't have 40 acres to stash 300 cars on or I would have long ago.
Wife wanted to have a yard sale and wanted to know if I wanted to sell stuff too. I told her I didn't have anything I wanted to sell. If I had anything I didn't want, I wouldn't have brought it home in the first place!
    But,
If you offer me ENOUGH MONEY I'll sell ANYTHING i own!!!!

So, you dreamers and cheapskates are just crying in you own soup because you don't have enough chips to ante up for the game...

You obviously haven't offered enough money to buy the stuff!

There's a guy comes around here about every six months wanting to know if I want to sell my MGB GT, I tell him sure, $3000.
He wants to buy it for $1000. I tell him keep dreaming, that's used Hundai money.

I'm not talking about what market value is or how much they go for on eGay. I'm talking about what it will take to move those particular cars out of those particular owners posession.

They wouldn't even be there to cry about if they had ever been reasonably priced..
Your granddad would have all ready hotrodded and wrecked them decades ago.
So, just maybe, some of us will be in the right place when the estate sale happens.
    Or not.

Jesus dude, calm down. I wasn't trying to "fling" anything at you. I wasn't being a smart-ass when I said "not that this is the casewith anyone posting here....but some people aren't getting stuff because of their shitty attitudes", that was me saying that THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ANYONE POSTING HERE. I was merely telling of my experience on the other side of the coin.

I think someone needs a hug.

I have thought of doing the very same thing, willing all of my stuff to a worthy kid. I have yet to find one, certainly not in my own family. I'll keep looking. If all else fails, do you think a nice '41 Tudor would make a cool coffin? May be throw the guitars in the back seat. When the trocar slides in, none of it will matter and everything will come into focus. ;)

In your original post, you complain about people who won't do what YOU want them to do with THEIR own property. You are not happy because you want them to do something with THEIR property that benifits YOU.

In your post, you ask for feedback with the comment "let the bitching begin". Yet when you don't like the feed back, you complain about it.

In your post, you use the terms "idiots", "assholes", "fruitcake","nuttier than squirrel shit", "morons", "dipshit" and describe one person as basically illiterate. Yet when you receive belittleing and insulting comments in return, you complain.

I really don't know anything about you, all I know is what you have posted here. Judging by what I see here, you come across as a selfish, whiney jerk. As far as I'm concerned, you can go pound sand.

PS. If you are going to bash on someone's reading and writing skills, you might want to have a look at your own first.

About 15 years ago a neighbor had 3 cars stored in a make shift barn. One was a 57 chevy the second a 55 chevy, and the third a 40 or 41 ford pu. They didnt run, but with a little work could be road worthy. He refused to sell I asked once and was told no. I know of several other interested parties who also asked. Fast forward 10 years, the guy who owns all of these cars passes away and his kids take over his estate. The chevy's are given to a grandson who will never touch them . The 40 ford pu was given to his son and now it is parked and not been touched. Mabey some people become attached to the cars that they owned in the past and just can't imagine parting with them. This is sad, but what is even worse is when the owner passes and the kids aquire the cars and start this cycle all over again.

Rich, I grenaded my daily driver Monday. But, I'll try to roll it out into the sun and post a few shots. But, I'm driving my Ranchito and chasing what I need to either fix my van or get another disposable late model. I'll push the Olds out soon, I'm aboiut ready to pull the engine and give it the treatment recommended by Don_Wow.

Hey Phil. I know what you mean about grenading the daily driver. I've been working all month on mine. It's now back on the road. Like my old Chief in the Navy used to say, "There's been a major triumph for work center 620!"
Who is Don_Wow? Here's a couple pics of my grenaded 4.2 Ford...

To get back OT, I used the daily driver today to pick up an 8CM Merc flathead motor, almost complete, $300.00 bucks. It looks to be a nice one. Will post pics later.

Before he passed away. My Grandfather Promised my Uncle his 1934 Chevy pickup which he bought new. My Grandfather was too old to drive and the truck sat. all it needed to run was a shim in the tranny. I called my uncle and offered to fix the truck at my own exspense so that we could take my grandfather for a ride ( he really loved that truck). My Uncle got all paranoid and thought I was trying to take the truck and turned me down.

After my Grandfather passed away, My Uncle got the truck and a 65 Ford Galaxy, another car my Grandfather bought new. My Uncle doesn't have the skill or money to do anything with the cars so I offered to purchase the truck. Of course he turned me down and it really hurts to see the truck sit and deteriorate but I never brought it up again. It's his and I'm sure it means a lot to him because it was his Fathers truck and there is a lot of family history tied to it.

About a year ago, he blew up the motor on the Galaxy and now its sitting a my step dads shop taking up space. He kept going on and on on how it was his Fathers car and he wanted to get it back on the road so we have all gone out of our way to help him find a replacement motor. And we have found a few good motors for it. Last night he called me up and told me I could have it or to sell it off cheap. Just get rid of it.

I don't know what made him change his mind about something he was so passionate about but its funny how people will stick to their guns then suddenly just walk away from something.

Well, Rich, I do have to tip my hat to anybody who can blow something up so completely.

Don_Wow is the resident HAMB early Olds guru. The man's knowledge is amazing and his willingness to share it is why the HAMB is the BEST resource in the world. This HAMB thing has Dow_Wow for Olds', Rocky for Pontiac, Scotch for exotic machine work on the straight 8 Buick and more flathead experts than you can shake a wrench at. Same goes for Chevy 6 and bangers too.

Ah yes, the Olds guru. "Mungo is merely a pawn in the great scheme of life." (Blazing Saddles) I shall start spending more time at the feet of Yoda so I will know more of these things.

Thank the God's for them! I'd be a babbling mess without the Hamb and it's endless resources......but ESPECIALLY without Rocky and the rest of the Pontiac boys!

    Kinda related.

When I was a kid (18) I found this old guy that would buy wrecked S10 blazers, fix them up and sell them. Well I had a brand new S10 blazer so I would stop by to say hi, just to see what he was working on. He asked to borrow my S10 factory service manual that I bought when I got the truck. So I loaned it too him. After a month or so I stopped by to get it back so I could do some stuff and he gets this funny look on his face and responds "why do you need a service manual?".

So I tell him I just need it and it is mine and I want it back. Jerk. Never talked to the old coot again.

Also, back in the mid 1980s there was 57' bel air parked in a field just outside Tracy California, right next to the freeway. I kept thinking that I ought to stop and see if it was for sale. About 6 months later the owner had put a sign in the window "not for sale". I guess he got tired of being hassled by people.

I believe that the car "flippers" probably made it worse for everyone.

I had been keeping my eye on a nice 1957 Chevy truck. It was a good driver and was in excellent condition. I stopped by and talked to the owners father who said they were going to sell it but they wanted $7k which was out of my budget at the time. I had been thinking more like $3k so I did not make them an offer.

i know what you mean, while visiting mexico some 3 years ago I ran into a guys property filled and I mean filled with model a coupes, model Ts 3 50s caddys and way other random cool cars...too many to list and remamber at once. anyway, I told him if he would mind to sell me one of his model As and I get the ``im going to fix them up and rent them out to movie companys`` bit. I tried to reason with him, seeing that his idea was not very realistic. but he was very stuck on his word, when I asked him questions about some of the cars like model year and even Make...he had no idea. yeah, real car guy right here...oh well, they are assholes but in the end its their shit, and i was on their property, so i really cant bash the dude for not wanting to sell me his own shit.
then there was another guy who wanted 10 grand (also in mexico) for a 1958 impalla that was baisically just in running condition needed a heap load of work, later i found out he sold the car to a mexican buddy of mine for less than 2 grand. it aint rasism at all, just the principle. since he actually was selling his car I can bash on that guy....what a jerk!

If you think the price is insane then don't buy it. It's his stuff, he doesn't have to sell to you just to make you happy.
