I guess you welded the tailgate and added some other reinforcements, otherwise a Buick 455 would twist that bitch like a piece of warm taffy.

  11. While I am not exactly crazy about the wagon,I feel that it does show originality.Maybe it isn't exactly,(dare I use the word?)"Traditional" in the truest HAMB sense of the word, but to me it typifies the concept of building something uniquely personal on a limited budget.Isn't that what hot rodding is all about?
I see vehicles posted here all the time that are far from "Traditional" and they are usually praised rather than berated so what makes this car any different?
I for one love custom cars but if the truth be known a lot of them are in my opinion butt ugly but I still can respect the work and thought that has gone into them.Just my opinion folks.

Man, that would have made a nifty little gasser style wagon too.

Examples, please. Just so we know the cars you are talking about.

I think what makes this car "different" is the fact it's a distasteful, hideous piece of rat rod garbage.

Of course, that's just my opinion without seeing these other non-traditional cars you are referring to.

    Guys,

Maybe he bought it like that? Maybe that is what he is starting with. Maybe he'll turn it into a nice wild traditional style custom.

Remember every build has to start somewhere, But what do I know I'm the FNG.

    Maybe. Maybe. Maybe.

Maybe if that were the case he should have let everybody know before posting those awful pics. :D

Since this topic hasn't slammed shut yet...how about some build pics? We love pics.
Did you build any strength back into the body when you cut the top off? I figure you did.

I welded the doors shut, front fenders to the old doors, tailgate skin all smoothed out,and welded on 1 1/4 in black pipe to the old window channels for strength and a nice clean line.

    Hey Ratz,
Don't let anyone knock you down on this car! I have a '62 Special convertable and I love it! Let me offer the following suggestions:
Tub the rear and add 22" rims and tires and 18's on front (big n little)
Bag it front and rear so you can drag the ground.
Cut the windshield down or go to a Duval-style.
Run a full length Carson style top on.
Clean it up with decent paint and detail and it'll be a show stopper.

The down side is that most folks at H.A.M.B. won't like it, but hey, it's your car, your vision. You just got an old car back on the road and saved it from the crusher or the ruster. Good for you! Good luck and send mor pics!
