I bought the yellow one a few years back...it is a california car originally but the person I bought it from had moved it to Mississippi. It is safe and sound now back in California LOL....Would love to see the pictures of it!! I just found a 2011 calander with the Yellow Comet in it...trying to find the original owner but no luck as of yet. Best I can tell it is a 347 stroker 4 speed...it sure does move. SO glad to have found this site...
Here are a few pics of my Red 427

It was actually given to him by Mercury. This car is one of the 100,000 mile Endurance Comets which were run with the Hipo Engine packages. They might be the only 64 Hipo Comets made. But that is a hot topic in itself.

The hottest Comets common man could buy were the 210hp 289s, correct?

B/FX Comet ordered by Jimmy Pflueger of Pflueger Lincoln Mercury in Honolulu.Driven by Bill Shrewsberry and then Earl Char. The DSO on this car is 525628.The Vintage Burgundy Comet has the same DSO and build date. The Vin unit numbers are two numbers apart. The Burgundy Comet is 521199 and the White Comet is 521201.They are both Cyclones with the HI-PO package which included the 289/271,a RCIndustries NHRA 1965 Approved bellhousing,a Borg Warner T10B 4-speed,a 9 inch rearend with 4.71 gears,HD shocks and brakes.

Just a Handfull for sure. The Pflueger Comet built by "Stroppe" Might be the only true 1964 B/FX Comet built. Being that Stroppe took over for Mercury in 65 building the A/FX and B/FX Comets, that 64 Comet may have been their test car.I wonder how much of it was Mercury Fiberglass, The Doug Nash Caliente Comet looks like just the Hood. I'm thinking all the other 64 Comets B/FX Comets out there Were independent ventures with some help from the dealers and such.

Looks like the factory Fiberglass Fenders and Front bumber on there.

    Apound

The three KENDIG Comets, Were those HIPO Comets. Any Factory involvement? They Look all Steel.

This how I found the B/FX Comet. It was called Dominator I and ran on the street. The owner had no idea what he had except that it once belonged to Pflueger. It has fiberglass fenders, hood and bumper.Plexiglass windows with a strap.(No crank).A Roll bar with two front racing seats. No interior. The Comet was for sale at that time for $1,500.00.That was in the mid 1980s.I had four cars at the time, one of them being the Burgundy Comet.I tried doing some creative financing but didn't have any more room for another car.I tried to get a friend to buy it,but he couldn't at that time.Later on Terry and Gary Hampsmire came along and found the car when it was Dominator II and painted blue. They purchased the car and took it home to Illinois. On the way they stopped at Rick Kirks place and showed it to him. They also found a 1965 B/FX Comet that had been converted to A/FX.That Comet is also now in Illinois.

I have had my 65 Comet since spring of 67 and always thought the 64/65s were great looking cars.I had NO idea they were/are as popular as they appear to be,just thought I was in a small group of supporters!!Between this thread and the Comet Central website,my opinion has changed. ROY.

I wish I had the following of these cars that they have today when I got mine in 99. I could go the Falcon guys but who wants to do that :p

Forums and message boards were basically non existent back then, and then after a few attempts at stuff with the car I got frustrated and I found other things to do in life. But Ive caught the 'bug' again so I'll keep truckin till im all old and dried up!! :D

MercuryJunky...the build date on the 1964 Pflueger B/FX Cyclone is June 30.Being that the Cyclone model was a mid-year introduction, you could be correct that Stroppe was involved by then.I'm sure you have noticed the horizontal trim piece at the bottom of the rear roof pillar. All 1965 Comets have this trim piece. The only 1964 Comets that have this trim piece are Cyclones.

Do you know if the Pflueger Comet is getting restored. On the rear pillar piece, I think all leter 64's got that. My Sox Comet Has it but my other does not. I had heard it was to cover up the crack in the paint that would develop along that seam. Too many Waranty paint repairs from 63 -64.cheaper to develop that piece.

Cant get enough of looking at your Comet pics.Love all that Comet Race history, Looks like they all had some hard race history.

Yeah relooked at my FoMoCo '64 Comet and Mercury Brochure and all the Comets came with the horizontal trim.

Mercuryjunky, did yours start life out as a Caliente?

Roy- I've had Early Novas for most of my adult life. With my Comet, my outlook has changed as well. Even outside the threads and websites, the fact thats its a Mercury just brings a different vibe from people. I could not believe the compliments I received from my peers at the Mooneyes Open House. The 64 and 65 years have a look and lines that just look incredible....

Dale;the "Rocket" looks great in front of Mooneyes!!A lot of cars back then had character, not the jellybean look they all have now!! I have a copy of that add that I picked up in PA. in 2004.I was hoping to test at Irwindale this Thursday, not going to happen, still fabricating headers and fuel system. ROY.

The owner of the Pflueger B/FX Cyclone used to be on the HAMB as 64 B/FX Cyclone.Last time I talked to him on the phone he hadn't done anything to either Comet, but that was awhile ago. Also, you are correct concerning the roof pillar trim piece. They came on later build 64 Comets.Early build did not have that piece. Therefore all 1964 Cyclones have the trim being that they were a mid year build.

MercuryJunky,If the Burgundy Cyclone has the same 6 digit DSO and build date as Pfluegers B/FX Cyclone, and is only 2 build units apart, and has all the same mechanicals, but is all steel except for a glass snorkle hood, what is your opinion of this Cyclone?I'll pm the data plate info of both cars.As a bonus I'll also pm you the 65 B'FX coverted to A/FX info.

Irwindale'll be there. Besides, let it cool down a bit!!
No trip to Japan for the Rocket this year, but it looks like when the country recovers some more, we'll be over there with the Comet next year. So, that means - - - - lets alter it some more!!!!! I've been dying to push it another 2 1/2 inches!!!! Hmmn. Got that stroker 427 laying around in Ernies garage as well!!!! Lets see. Can it all be done by the Reunion? If not, I'll just help you out in the pits, Roy!!!
