I'm quickly becoming the bad guy here, so I should probably stop posting but... I don't mean we shouldn't express our opinions or that when people start posting threads about their 91 civic we should ignore it. This guy technically meets H.A.M.B. requirements, as fugly as it is.

I think I'm done on this thread, but continue to make fun of me if you wish. ;)

no he dont, nothing about that belongs on this message board, unless its used as a bad example.

what he has done is much like finding out you have an ingrown pubic hair, then cutting your dick off to cure it.

Technically it does NOT meet HAMB requirements, as it is NOT TRADITIONAL.

OK, let's suppose that the roof was trash. And let's suppose that fixing the roof, welding another roof, etc. was beyond the guy's skills or desire. What could he have done?

Well, he could have installed some subframe connectors in the floor for rigidity - or even swapped the body onto a Metric frame (same basic dimensions). Then when he cut the roof off, the car would have had enough rigidity that he wouldn't have had to ghetto-weld the doors shut.

Now, you could build a Carson-style top out of wood and canvas, or even capped the doors for a Phaeton look. Had he not WANTED to build a piece of shit, tacking on those fender pipes and pop riveting on the ugly hood scoop wouldn't have occurred to him. weld the tailgate? Well, you could, and even install another seat back there to really carry a group - or leave the tailgate alone and have a great spot for coolers.

No money for nice wheels? No problem. Paint the body and the wheels the same color, and cut coils for a nice stance.

He could have ended up with a nice looking 'phaeton' that would have caught eyes and been a quality vehicle for not much more money.

This happened because some jerkoff who thinks "rat rodding" is cool decided to build the most fucked-up piece of shit that he could. Don't give me this 'best he could do' crap.

I genuinely believe the threads like this have their use,as a reminder to would-be users of what this place is not about. Perhaps rather than delete them, they could move to a special section headed something like "sorting the wheat from the chaff".

Funky threads and OT topics dilute and degrade the HAMB. What's more important? Heaping praise on every effort? Or attempting to keep this site relavant and focused on what it's all about?

If we all, myself included were to post all of the things we like outside of the narrow focus of the HAMB, this place would got to utter crap in minutes. I don't want that. Do you?

Oh, and I'll save you the time. I've posted my share of OT stuff, had posts pulled by the mods. etc.. So I know first hand.

  19. I nominate this car for the first New HAMB Award. This car should set the bar pretty high and it will take some spectacularly weird and totally wrong car to receive the Award next year. Because, the number of people defending this automotive CRIME out number the folks who recall what we like on the HAMB. Hence, the New HAMB Award. The Old HAMB wouldn't allow that 10 seconds of consideration. Let's hope we don't have to award this prize again.

This is not a custom. It is an INTENT to offend our generation's senses...
As for "Possibilities"...the kid never even THOUGHT about traditional.
The thing is a POS and an offense to the eyes.
CRUSH IT and flog the builder!

I guess I never realized just narrow the focus of the H.A.M.B. is like you say, and I don't think that's a bad thing. I'm glad people are serious about it too, it just seems like the trash talking can go a little far at times. I for sure don't think we need to vomit sunshine at every build that pops up. We can't improve without constructive criticism.

  23. The only trouble with this logic is that if everyone ignored these inappropriate (for this forum) posts then they would multiply until the HAMB would be full of this type of crap.

Now, on to something constructive - I agree that this thing is an abortion but, instead of saying "junk it and start over" which means more vintage tin being made into new washers and dryers, what do you think could be done to this to make it HAMB worthy/friendly/appropriate? I think it could be saved by concentrating on a mid-60's show car theme - keep it as a tub, cut the stock windshield posts off and fab something roadster-ish in it's place. Get the body back out of orbit and closer to a lowered/mild rake profile and fix that hood and front fenders! Put the exhaust where it belongs - under the car. Add killer metalflake and real chrome on the outside, fully finished inside (think horseshoe surrounds and T&R inserts). Throw on some Radirs and piecrust slicks and have a cool open car for not a whole bunch of money. I'm guessing $7000 and some hard work and you'd be done.

Ooh, this isn't a good idea. We'll get one-upmanship posts from now to doomsday as there are tons of builds out there that make that buick a candidate for pebble beach.
Too bad, that could've been a neat car. I am skeptical about a 455 being under the hood, front end seems a bit high for that motor. Its a lunker.
