Yale, Oklahoma. Wonder if they raced those wagons and how long before they were replaced by those new-fangled machines.

That is a Lincoln, not a Merc. It's a '53, one of the famous Mexican Road Race Lincolns. A few were wrecked during the race and it looks like this may have been one of them.

Looks like this might be "HO Scale" racing?... I love that stuff... I've got an HO Scale drag strip in the house with all sorts of groovy accessories (timing tower, grandstands, snack bar, little people, etc) ... The only drag strip around these parts that doesn't have a curfew...

I am not familiar with the use of the term "Jitterbug" in relation to motor vehicles.

In this case I'll consider it not theft but a father-to-son transfer.

Jimi: Actually, both POVs have some validity;), IMO. Robt. Zimmerman (aka Bob Dylan) was, as a young man, a big admirer of Woody Guthrie's style and messages of dissatisfaction with the status quo. He went several times to visit Woody in the hospital in his final months, seeking Woody's advice and guidance. Bob said Woody was pretty hard on him at times, and maybe that gave Bob the impetus to put some more "bite" into his own music and lyrics. While I'm not a fan of Dylan in his more narcissistic moments, his early music helped define the '60s, and his contributions to the Traveling Wilburys were indispensable. Arlo -- like Hank Williams, Jr. -- just carried on a "Family Tradition." Arlo, however, has always exhibited more of a sense of humor than his dad, and I'm glad.

No excuses. I was fooled by the similaritiy. Anyway, some of the folk Henry surrounded himself with were pretty interesting. Some of Harry's behavior was pretty eccentric. Good item on him, too, on Wikipedia.

I swear the back stories are as interesting as the PHOTOS we post on this thread! Anybody who doen't mind reading a bit would surely find it worthwhile to follow some of the links guys and gals post!;) In point of fact:

(Read THIS TIME magazine article, and you won't know whether to hate or pity Bennett! LOL. No matter WHO you were, sounds as though working for Henry Ford was quite a trip!)

Well, he was tough. And from what I've read, he functioned pretty much as Henry's body guard, enforcer, general "security" super and monitor of "internal intelligence." I can't imagine why Edsel's widow pressured Henry to turn over control of the company (albiet, briefly) to somebody with no real business skills.

Maybe it explains why the president of the United States got his own operatives involved, insuring that Henry II was rapidly and honorably dismissed from U.S. Navy duty and brought in to keep FoMoCo on keel (since, in '45, they were an important military supplier).
