Off a mountain where I live. That's interesting idea. Maybe some giant truck brakes. Any Chrysler brake experts out there?

It's an 8 3/4 found in 72 and older B, C and E bodies 1/2 ton pickups and V8 A bodies. There is no access pan on the back, just a "chunk" that comes out the front. Any help?

    Jerry,

Best I can Find is an 11 inch drum. After that it goes to an 8 bolt pattern for Chrysler product. The 300 has a 2 3/4 wide shoe drum in a 5 4 1/2 bolt pattern. What size shoe are you running now?

    Jerry,

Dana 60, at least some, backing plates will fit 8 3/4 axles. They have a 12" plate for the 60, and I found this drum NAPA # 4401125, 12" with 4.5 bolt circle. It would be a mutt but might work. photo-1.jpg

Sounds good. I'm gonna work on it

    Sanding/filling

I only got a few hours today to work on the speedster. Sanded and filled and ground some casting flashing off the diff. Maybe I'm getting carried away. I'm gonna see if I can get the chassis painted this weekend. That would be da bomb! (Does anyone say that any more?)

If you are just using brakes on the rear wheels only a smaller diameter master cylinder might help the brakes be more effective.

    Jerry,

I found a set of five hole plates listed for "Dana 60 or Chrysler 8 3/4" with 11" drums, then I found those for a G.M. Dana 60 with a 12" drum; I don't know if the pattern is completely different, or if it just has extra holes added between the five yours have.

Changing the cylinder ratios might help petal effort, but that chassis looks pretty heavy, and maximum breaking surface would be a good choice. Any idea what the weight is now? B.T.W. 4.5 " is the same as 114.8 mm. listed on drums.

A bit O.T. but what make of lathe is that?

I'm trying to find drums for my front now too, so i can keep an eye out for anything that might work for you. Personally crappy brakes is a tradition I'm willing to give up.

    Paint

I finally bought the paint. You guys are gonna say I should have bought Dupont concept, there's just no way I can afford that. I probably can't do bodywork equal to that anyway. Besides Napa is one of my tenants so I gotta support them. PR4 Here it is. It looks darker in real life.

I'd say that's fine. Fancy paint really isn't appropriate to the style of the car. In its era it'd have been brush-painted with a linseed-oil-based paint that'd take several weeks to dry.

    Where's Jerry?

Hey. That means "hi" down here in peanut country. Actually, peanut country is a little further south. I live in moonshine country. In fact, for many years, the tagline (byline?) of our local paper was--Cleveland Courier, Covers the Mountains Like Moonshine. But I digress. What does digress actually mean anyhow. I'm out of my element when it comes to paint. I don't know exactly what paper to sand with. I'm not sure what paint will stick to what. Do I use this primer with that paint? should I use a sealer? Believe it or not I owned a body shop once. But my guys handled everything and I just lost money like most body shop owners. So here's the low down. I think the chassis is almost ready to paint. At some point you just throw up your hands and say to hell with it. After you paint, and you wish you'd dealt more with prep, you figure out how to hide all the screw ups. That's my theory anyway. The good news is I think I'll video the painting. That should be interesting. 20% chance tomorrow is the day.

  21. For just the chassis, I'd go with the "Scuff & Squirt" method. But then I'm more of a photographer than a painter. Shows ya what I know! :D

  26. Open the video on YouTube, look at the address bar at the top of the browser, and left click and drag the cursor to highlight the jumble of letters and numbers at the end. (P8yorZpJQG0 is the code for your video.) You want everything after the = sign. Hit CTRL+C to copy them to the clipboard.

Open your new message window in Advanced View. At the right end of the tool bar click the button that says "Wrap YT Tags..." The tags will appear with the cursor in the middle, right where you want it. Just hit CTRL+V to paste your code from the clipboard between the tags and your good to go! :D
