MORE awesome shots there, Dan! And I love the fact that you are
making yourself available to HELP both the yard owners and
HAMBers looking for buildable project cars. The HAMB at its best,
    right there!

    Hopefully, I may help a little, too:eek: . . .

'55 Hudson "Hash" Hollywood hardtop near Pine River, Minnesota.
Seller TrinketsandJunk has these cars for sale in his/her eBay store.
NOT a commercial, but HAMBers' first questions are: Where is it and
IS IT FOR SALE? Right? This person seems to have a great number
of quality project cars, as well as some VERY nice rollers and runners.

Toro! How often do we see one of these rare babies

And here's one that needs no intro to HAMBers! No drivetrain
or steering column, but HAMBers don't need those anyway!:D

    Hi guys,

I was gone for a week, but am back now. Great stuff everyone. Makes me wish I was retired and could go running around seeing all of these. Here is one that I think is a 36 Chevy I took just this week.

Welcome back, Dan! You, your pix and sentiments add so much to the spirit and content of this thread. With the so-called turret top, you have to be right: At least '36 or a little later.

Thanks for that onemintcaddy - not sure if I can do it or not, but I am going to try and get up there and at least document them before they are gone.

Dan, NICE interpretation on the '39! Did you say that you still use film, as well as digital? If so, which tools/techniques did you use here? THX!

  15. All of these shots are from Old Car City USA near White, GA - pics are probably about 20 years old

Thanks Jimi - no they are brand new and digital. I still have my film cameras and even some left over B&W film, but have not really gotten around to using them. I wil photograph these again, so maybe I will did the old stuff out for that.

Wow! Where to start! This shot is like an arrow through my heart:eek:, since my fave DeSotos are the '55 through '57 models. This '56 is a pretty scarce 4DH (there were NO 4DH bodies in '55). It was just sitting there in the desert getting beaten up and going to waste.

Obviously a talented photog, Joe Reifer set up for this keen 10-minute, full-moon exposure in March 2009. Apparently, the only "production magic" is time-lapse and colored lights at the time of exposure. He stated at the site BELOW that his Firedome shot was done during a workshop:) conducted by him and another pro-photog buddy on night photography and light painting near Pearsonville, California, in the Mojave Desert. (To see some more detail on Joe's workshop, please search: www.joereifer.com/words/2009/10/07/night-photography-1956-desoto...

The sad part is that, if I understand correctly, the junkyard is now gone:(. But at least Joe and others recorded the aesthetic appeal before the end came:eek:. Quite a few enchanting shots in the above style can be seen on flickr HiveMind. Dan, maybe I should email Joe and see if he would like to add any of his material to our old-time junkyards thread, what'cha think?

Welcome to the HAMB, 731132! :D Amazing to see all of that American iron in Sweden! Hey, on this Olds, it appears somebody was doing it pretty well, then had to give up the project. Would be cool if someone else could graft that bodywork onto a coupe or convertible! THANKS for your contributions, man. Come back any time to this thread!

Great to see those cars from Sweden and Belgium. I have been swamped, but will try to add more here in the next few weeks.

Colorado HAMBer Mike Bourg posted these and other photos the end of July from the "Jim
Gardner Collection" near Fairplay, CO, which is in the process of selling off, pending the crusher
arriving to clear everything out in mid-September. The link in Post #1 states that this yard has
been written up in Old Cars Weekly. If interested in contact and/or driving details, search
ROM828's thread entitled "Colorado car collection getting crushed." There are several links with
2011 photos and info in the thread, and Mike said he has spoken with a lady there who said that
several hundred cars remain. This is not a commercial, and this thread is primarily about photos
of early junkyards and early cars in SURVIVING junkyards. BUT, I always try and help get the
word out when there are potential projects and parts cars available, in particular, yards that are
winding down and preparing to crush out. Always sad, but maybe communication can help save
a few. When that hydraulic crusher comes down, it's all history, ya know?

Scoot, if you mean the first one in Post 1,261, it's a '38 Olds, much like the own shown in "A Christmas Story." The owner says if it doesn't sell, it may be the one he'll keep for a "lawn ornament"! Mixed blessing, but it beats crushing!

Old Car City, which was mentioned by TennesseeCouchPotato, has to have been one
of the most amazing old-car boneyards in the U.S. Southeast. Founded in, I think,
1934 as Lewis World of Parts, and always family-owned last I heard, it is STILL a great
place for photographers to capture the faded glory of Detroit, South Bend, Toledo,
Kenosha, etc.! Here are some more keen shots, THANKS to the site OldCarsRotting!

    MORE of Old Car City

This is a fab, well-composed shot of a make that was, by 1954, on its last legs
-- and still with no V-8 to bolster public interest. The Kaiser Manhattan was
arguably the most attractive car issued by Kaiser-Frazer or Kaiser-Willys.
Old Car City USA, White, Georgia.

You won't find many of these left in boneyards
-- anywhere! Old Car City USA, White, Georgia.

This once-grand Imperial Crown coupe has fallen a long
way since 1964. Old Car City USA, White, Georgia.
