Today I was touring the back roads of Central Kansas and found myself in the neighborhood of my pal Lippy from the Hamb who is kind of a FED guru on here so I stopped for a visit. I didn't stay long cause I was busy and besides the temp got up to a blistering 108 degrees here today. Brutal----
My story begins as I arrived into the city limits of Rush Center. I would describe it as a crossroad town that is perhaps 1/2 mile wide and 1/2 mile long.

I found his place quickly and said howdy to the friendly Lippy (Steve).

He was busy in the shop doing some body and paint work on a late model pu truck and I took a look around. He has been restoring a 69 Olds 442 and his paint work is very nice.....

I even saw a couple of old engines in his stash.....

We had a good visit and I had to leave to meet someone back home (2 hour drive) but before I left he was kind enough to sell me some hemi valve covers that I am going to paint and add to my collection. Thanks Lippy! It was good to meet you in person and see you in Salina soon.

and then on the way home I stopped along the highway about 4 miles from his place and took some photos of the remnants of a long gone drive in movie theater----nothing left but what you see here------

Paul, was a pleasure having you! And yes it kinda got warm today! That little drive-in is still open. Hopefully next year I'll have the 55 and the dragster at Salina and the Hamb drags. I need a bigger shop! See ya soon! Lippy:D

It seems that Kansas is the 50's - 60's life we all wish was back. My visit down there last year was great. Ans a side note there is a drive restaurant like that in Winthrop Mn were my mother in law lives. Places like that are few and far between in our big chain world.

I would agree that KS is at least a few years behind in most things and usually that is a good thing.

Sitting here reading one of Paul's road trip stories makes doing next to nothing today because I dislocated my shoulder yesterday afternoon a little easier. Thanks for an enjoyable read.

Paul, I've seen that sign for Hermosa, "It said Welcome To Hermosa"

    "On both sides"
