Vintage shots from days gone by!

My wife picked up a book about Rt66 yesterday and it had a couple of paragraphs about the McDonald brothers and the beginnings of their restaurant. It says that originally they had car service. The McD's weren't satisfied with the speed of the customer turnover. It was 1948 and the self-service gas stations were starting to pop up around the area. It occurred to them that they could have "self-service" at the restaurant so they fired the carhops and started their "system".

 

I plead ignorance.... Is it an anchor?

I found the description amusing... "A large metal pole is to the right with a metal trash bin behind it. A large metal pole is to the right with a metal trash bin behind it". What detail, painting such a lovely picture.

Wonder why they didn't point out the "metal trash bin" by the tree?

Reminds me of what we used to do when kids on a crowded sidewalk, look up and point. Before you knew it, most everyone else was gawking upward to see what they were missing

Your scans are fine. Just use your photo editing program to crop them into individual pictures. MS Paint works fine for this.
