I am currently still new to the HAMB and I am sorry if I am gonna piss someone off here but I am seeking info for my truck. -1948 ford f-1 panel truck c-4 tranny. and 302 engine. - Vin number locations -sheet metal vendors for rust repair. -motor mounts for a 302 for the truck -diagram of how sheet metal is supposed to be assembled on the truck. -anything else technical on the truck. Thank you very much for your time and have a great day!
I have a '55 F100 Panel that is drivable after many years of procrastination. I used Mid Fifty out of Arizona for most of the new stuff I needed. They were not cheap, but they have just about evverything you would need. Nice to deal with also.
join this site too it is very helpful as for parts and specs. http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum41/ lots of good folks it is a 48-60 only ford trucks and people are friendly. both sites kick ass btw your panel is either a 51 52 or someone swapped the front sheet metal, the 51-52 is the best looking one too.
Once you find the Vin you can research it to find out the year. Or post the first four number and I can find out for you. If its a 1948-50 the dash will have one hole for the speedo and gauges. If its a 1951-52 it will have two round holes one for the speedo and the other for the gauges by the pictures it look like a 51 - 52 Vin location. Inside the glove box door on a plate, a plate located on the upper right corner (PS) of the fire wall. If the truck was not messed with you will find it stamp in the metal on the header panel above the fire wall. Its under the hood in the area of the cawl vent. There are some other location but you should be able to find it in one of the locations I listed As for 302 ford motor mounts for that truck there are a lot of companys making them. They have side mounts and cross member mounts. I prefer the cross member mount because of the ladder type frame. they also make the trans mount. Decide on the front suspension before you go for motor mounts. The original trans mount will have to be moved. do not remove it because it will weaken the frame. I usually move it back and make spacer that go between the mount and the frame As for the front sheet metal you could have any year from 1948-1952 on the truck. There were so easy to change that back then if they had a crash they would use to the yard and use what they had. I just found a 51 with the 48 front sheet metal.
The rig is registered as a 48 through the state of washington the vin number on the title is 87hc84516 it had 51 front end on it the guy i bought it from got a 48 front end for it. so I know alot of it looks 51 but according to the title it is a 1948.
Sorry if i came off like a dick there. I am glad i got people like you helping me means alot. I have everything to make it a 48 the guy got rid of all the 51 stuff. so i dont know what to say. I will go get the number off the firewall and get some paint stripper to look at the vin plate up in the corner riveted to the firewall. and find the glovebox lid.
Well like i said the guy i bought it from switched the front end before i ever got it. So we'll see what the car actually is and go from there.
went down and looked the vin plate riveted to the firewaall is covered with primer so ima need paint striper to clean it up, i found this plate in my box of shit that came with the rig also found this number stamped into the firewall idk if it means anything. but the number is RHI2E2204 starting at the top it reads as follows *F1D2RH-14581*4700 114 91 3400 2nd row- 3 3.92 P 16 F 5888.
the vin in the frame is on the right or passenger rail right above the axle on top. you might have to clean it real good. I think your truck is a 52 Looking at the vin number.
Alright man ill look for it tomorrow! thanks! also I'm going to use aircraft stripper on the riveted metal where the Vin is on the body. so i can see the Vin on the body hopefully everything matches my Vin on the title says 48.. but like you guys have said the body has markings of a 51...
The numbers on your title said it is a 1948, F1, 226 6 cylinder engine. The numbers on the plate which are the vin numbers for that truck. said it a 1952, F1, 239 cid 8 cyl. The title you got does not match the truck. The only thing you can hope for is that the frame numbers match the title. Sorry to tell you the bad news. but it better to find out now and not after you get the truck done. I would get the title issue straighten out before I would go do anything to that truck. Looking at your pictures of the truck it is a 1951-52 main body and the plate also said so.
Is there numbers stamp on the header over the fire wall. There about 1 inch tall. If so can you give that number to me.
Post a picture of your dash.....that's the one part that's hard to change over. Not impossible though.... Also, that number plate may not be for your truck. You have to use the frame number and/or the one on the cowl (if any).
Worst comes to worse i can make this into a 48 to match the title.... stamp it and make it a 48 legally
Its a sweet Panel. I like the 51 front grill better then the 48. My 50 truck cab has a VIN stamped right at the top of the fire wall. Big characters spread out over a foot long. If that helps in the search for yours.
Here's where they are on my 51 F1. Not sure if the numbers are in the same place in '48, but I suspect so. Driver side stamped in the firewall (this isn't VIN but plant assembly info). Passenger side is a rivited tag on the firewall. Frame stamped. (the location could be slightly foward of where I indicated)
So i went out and scrubbed where vin #s should be.... heres what i found so 1# is the riveted Vin tag... No numbers stamped on it at all... its blank #2 is the factory code and it reads RHI2E2204 #3 is the frame and i striped it in 4 spots in the engine bay no vin # So basically mines a mut and i can do whatever lol. theres no vin on the body or frame. I can stamp it to the vin i have for the title and the only thing that will be wrong would be the dash. and maybe a few other small things.
I have a parts interchange page set up for these trucks that might help: http://www.fatfenderedtrucks.com/partsinterchange.html
Recheck the numbers and then try this: http://www.ford-trucks.com/vin-decoder/index.php?a=decode The numbers you posted didn't work. Sometimes the stampings or the numbers on the titles get a little mixed up.
Well umm i dont know what to say. Those are the vins on the 2 peices of paper i have to for the car.... so it seems like i need to make a phone call.
