What's the Most Absurd Claim you've heard at a Car Show, Drag Race, Cruise Night, etc

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by DaveyJonez, Mar 5, 2009.

  1. I used to work at a Mustang shop here in the San fernando Valley. Every jerkwater mustang owner and their dog had "Cobra" valve covers on their car. I've often wondered how many of those people took their cars to local car shows, and displayed them as having a "Cobra" motor.
In the three years that I was there, I can count maybe ten real Hi-Po 289s, or Shelby cars, that we serviced.

what about the movie cannonball run when the guy with the gullwing tells the girls we shoehorned in a 383 hemi and its hot

  3. (points at my car) 'look theres a chopped and channeld 32'

(its a chopped NOT channeld 29) i guess he got one right

also so kid kept askin 'who's car is that' i sat there not saying anything while a teenager said thats a 59....i thought WOW

also liked the guy leaning on my door talking to others as if it was his car.

and the other that said man weres the original flathead? those flathead 8's are nice....yeah sure they are man, too bad my car came out before that motor.

I was last week-end at Antwerp Vintage Reunion and some guy started to argue with me that a Sunbeam Alpine and a Renault Alpine were the same cars only with different badges; I slowly went away because I even don t want to discuss with such people!

  8. "they didn't make a 392 hemi"

"331 hemi? thats not a REAL hemi"

"ford didn't make the 427, chevy did"

i drive an OT 86 el camino (choo choo custom) and someone said, "nice camaro! how'd you get a truck bed to fit it?"

also drive a steel 23 turtledeck with a 312 yblock..all the time i hear, "ford didnt make a motor with the distributor in the back" its got a few spots of putty to help define some ridges on the deck of it, "hell, thats not steel, see that putty bubble?"

I worked at a Chevy dealer that traded for a car like that, it was a mid sixties Mopar convertable . It was a total bondo queen. We were asking the moon and then some for it. All the salesmen would suddenly get really busy if anyone walked up to look at it. One night I get this clown looking at it, he ask me 3 or 4 really stupid questions about the car, like he thinks I don't know what lookin' at, his last quetion was the best " how much bondo do you think it has in it?" I answered " about a 55 gallon drum " " Ohhh" he says and walks off.

I was hangin' out at "The Gardens" in Seattle, when a Gardens "Groupie" asked if she could go for a ride in my 69 Torino. As we were pulling back into the parking lot I pointed to this sign, and was about to tell her how I painted it,
    [IMG]

when she told me SHE DID IT. I asked her how? and what did she use? Letting her sink herself deeper. When we parked, I said, "Hey, let me show you something". Opened the trunk and there werre my stencils that I had used. She STILL swore she did, as she quickly beat feet outa there.

" I used to have a sbc 350 nova that pulled wheelies and ran 10's flat in the 1/4". Umm...No, you didn't. And no, my 69 chevelle ss 396 IS one of the slowest car I own. It might run 13.6 if I am lucky. Mostly just burns out and makes a bunch of noise. people think because it is loud it must be fast right? wrong.

    Allow me to translate:

Thus, a 60-year-old man should be allowed to bring any car into any event because he was around in 1951.

    Makes sense to me!

    Way o/t
On my way to Daytona bike week, stop outside of Daytona at a truck stop, as I'm finishing my meal I notice an 18 wheeler unloading a bunch of bikes. About that time a number of cars with NY plates drive up and a bunch of guys get out, unpack and head to the rest rooms. Then come out as "true" bikers, brand new chaps, vests and jackets(patches and all). OK so they didn't want to ride all the way from NY. They then proceed to throw their new leathers on the ground, mud holes, dirt, oily patches, and scuff them around, get dressed again and ride the fifteen miles into Datona Beach in all their road grime glory.
Saw them at Froggy's later that night and as they were telling their tells of their ride down from NY I asked if they enjoyed their stop at the truck stop. They then quietly moved on to the next bar.

Heard that one all the time (since I have a 351 Windsor in my '51) but I put a pair of aluminum COBRA valve covers on it, now it's " Shit man that SOB got a COBRA engine in it, bet that sucker will haul ass!"[/QUOTE]

I get something like that with my 57. Put "Thunderbird Special" decals on the valve covers of my 292 Yblock. They usually go on 312's. Even though I tell everyone it's a 292 some insist it's a 312. I tell them I just like the way they look.

"It's a cherry" I heard this while lookin at a 64 fairlane 500. He said right when I noticed the rear undercarriage was rusted out and would cause the car to split in half the first bump ya hit. Also got in a week long argument in my auto class with a a few kids who said it was impossible to kickstart a Harley.

  26. Can't tell ya how many times i've heard: "I like your roadster"---see avatar. But they did say they liked it so I just say thanks. No sense in embarrassing them, especially when they usually have a sweety with 'em.

I had a 20 min argument with my roommate over this two weeks ago, he couldn't fathom why the high number meant it took more compression to detonate. (he's the guy that reads ever car magazine and Motor Trend blog ever written and knows everything about every engine and or car.)

Me and a buddy were in his 4door 61 Galaxie and this guy came up to us and says he has the same 64 impala at home but he cant drive it because he blew the motor doing a 9 second run in the quater mile, When we told him that this car was not a impala he told us we know nothing about cars and said we were trendy. I then asked what motor does he have and he said he has a 700 hp 454 then he says oh what kind of custom work did you do to ur galaxie to make it look like my 64, At that point we just said have a nice day and left. This just happened a week a go
