When we had some significant damage to the heads on a Blown Alcohol Altered last winter and I mentioned that maybe this would be a good opportunity to make the switch to nitro, a guy I knew said, "Sure man, you can convert this thing over to nitro for around $15,000".

$65,000 later we are ready for the first passes - tomorrow at Evadale, TX.

I haven't seen him for a while, but he had no clue what this took to accomplish!

"I have a '58 Chevy 348 with 3 four barrels that'll do wheelstands so high you could walk under it"

they r actually surprisingly rare... i hate to say it but these tuners(especially supras) will walk 97% percent of cars, including all of our beloved traditional drag/street cars(especially) on the highways (even @ 5280 ft)............. i hate hearing about new cars on the hamb BTW..

Here's a little briefing of the motor, it's wiki, so take it with a grain of salt. 2JZ. I've seen a lot of guys ditch the twin turbos for a massive single turbo, and I've seen guys turbo the non-turbo base engine.

They are pretty rare, to put in perspective, it's like a '32 Ford 3-window of the import world. Although, the body style was in production for 9 years. ('93-'02), but I believe Toyota stopped importing the Supra to the States in '98.

You don't see too many of them, though- because they're in the 15-40k dollar price range. And not too many people want to pay that much for a 15+ year old car.

"Buy a raffle ticket for just $5 and you could win this car that is being restored"

yeah right, we know that no one is going to win and they are going to sell the carcass to a junk yard and pocket another $200 :p

EDIT: okay, I'll admit it. I bought 2 tickets for the 65 Chevy convertible at the Great American Roadster Show in 2008.

The year was 1989, I heard later in the week that they were re-telling their story when some real patch holders who saw them at the truck stop, called them out about it. some of them went to the hospital, and the rest went back to NY. Don't know if this is true or not.

I like it when people spill BS. That way you know not to waste your time taking them seriously.

We used to call it Ray and Dee syndrome after a couple we knew. He had an 80s model ranger with a 351w in it. Looked like a POS, but apparently he could use it to move skyscrapers. Everything that they had was better than yours.

I will share one BS story I told, not car related. Back in college I had long hair and a beard. I was at a Mexican eatery here in town when a guy came up and asked me if I was Travis Tritt's brother. I just said yes. I couldn't resist. I always thought I looked more like a slightly smaller version of Dave Waddington.

Just a couple of weeks ago, my wife and I went to a party at a buddy's place in the '36. Lots of rods there, lots of muscle cars, a little of everything.

We hadn't gotten out of the car yet, when some Ya-hoo comes up, walks completely around the car, loudly pointing out to the guys with him all the flaws he percieves it have, and then proceeds to tell me it's too low to pass NSRA inspection. It IS low, and in my buddy's grassy back yard, it looked like it was setting on the rockers.

"That's below the scrub line", he said pointing to the rockers, "...and your steering arm is too. That'll never pass inspection."

I'm just getting out of the car, and my wife is looking at me, clearly expecting me to unload on this ass-hole. Which is what I normally would do.

Instead, I just said, "Yup. It's pretty low." and walked off. By that time he was laying down, trying to look under it, with his had under the rocker, the steering arm, and checking that against the height of the tire sidewall, while he yelled, "It's really low, that's not legal!"

Must be I'm getting more mellow.

He doesn't know much about cooling systems. My Volvo is putting down about 500 at the wheels and uses a stock water pump. Having a large radiator is what keeps it cool, not faster flowing fluid.

When ever I stop to fuel up and hear "what year is that", it goes one of two ways. A cool older dude will compliment the car and I'm on my way, or I get a jackass explaining how his buddy had tHe same car and raced around town getting laid back in the day. Then I'm at the gas station ten mins more than I wanted. Now I try to go to the less crowded station.

As for a story I did know a kid with a trans am who got his car painted and all of a sudden it's was modded, told me it had nitrous. When I asked where the bottle was mounted, he said in or around the gas tank. The body shop installed it of course. Lol

Mabye it was my claim that was absurd, but it actually was true the owner just refused to believe it. I had my eye on a swb pickup that would be at a shop/car lot now and then but not for sale. Then one day it popped up on Craigslist so I went to see. The guy who owned the shop and the truck took me for a ride and I was very close to buying it. It had some unique, unmistakable touches. A few months later I saw it at a car show and when I saw this girl and her boyfriend get out I went to compliment them about it and said I wished I'd bought it when I had the chance. They both looked at me really confused, and she said "it's never been for sale, my Dad bought it new and gave it to me for my birthday, blah, blah, blah." I didn't push it, but this apparently upset the boyfriend who started mouthing and then she started backing him so now the two of them are yelling at me right there at the show. Then she starts crying...! I wanted to walk away but since I had been so polite and they were being idiots I decided to rub it in a bit. I starting rattling off what I knew about it - 383 stroker, 4.10 gears, painted just a couple months before and to top it off I named her Dad and the shop. They shut up. NOT MY FAULT PEOPLE!!!

Seen an ad for a 35 coupe, very nice car with a decked out flathead. It came with adjustable valve covers. For sale by a local classic car dealer.
