problem was what to do about the horn of the dash...so I made some new corners using a piece of pipe cut at an angle:
bought some Roth Green metal flake, silver flake base, and candy green color....for the top of the dash and the steering wheel....
Got the dash painted tonight...1 can of Roth's spray bomb was just enough to cover the dash and the steering wheel....I think I'm going to like the pattern...not absolutely sure though.....anyway here's an out of focus photo for those wondering about the spray bomb.... I'll take better photos outside once I get the dash instruments back in:
Caddy-O, I really dug this truck in white, but now I'm in love with it in the new color! It's turning out simply amazing with all the effort in the mods done so far. Awesome job and looking forward to what's to come! Maybe I'll get to check it out in person some day. Ryan
Had to strip off about a 100.00 worth of paint off the dash because the candy developed some splotching due to direct sunlight. Finished the re-paint last night with gold flake instead of silver. This time..I sprayed about 8-10 coats of clear...so hopefully this will take care of the problem.... Photos coming within the next day or two.
I LOVE this truck... I absolutely love everything you do to it and excited everytime this thread pops back up...keep up the great work
Daryl if you ever sell it put me at the top of the list. I'd really like to have it back, SERIOUS! Especially after all grade A++++ work you did on her, fixing all the dumb learning curve stuff with limited tools and skills in highschool. That truck shoulda put me in jail more times than I can count. Funny on the front fenders thats why it had 'glass fenders. I couldnt find good ones anywhere. I got the cab out of Concordia, Ks hunted high and low for a nice bigbackwindow cab, and ran a stepside bed on it before moving from Kansas to Houston. Somewhere in there I blew the last motor I put in it so it sat, and then I found a dude south of Tulsa with 3 perfect Fleet short's. I bought one. I never drove that truck with a fleetside though, I sold it to Nobs with both beds. Man this truck has gotten better with age! Keep the updates coming.
Man I wish the timing was better sure is going to be boring in Amarillo next weekend. Hope you guy's have a blast in KS!!
This is great. Your thinking outside the box encourages me on my 58 build as well. I cannot get that olds dash out of my head! I was thinking of the roth bomb on my dash in red before I saw your pics and now I'm convinced. Kick ass truck! Looking forward to more posts!
Absolutely PLEASE call me when that day comes to sell. I shoulda bought it back from Chandler but glad i didnt you are doing it justice right now! For old times sake can you unscrew the brake pedal pad and take a picture of the top notch scrap metal stick weld job I did almost 20 years ago??? Sure have come a long ways since that barnfab hillbilly redneckery.
Home Run, brother! That is now my favorite! I'd love to see your truck in person, I'm sure that pictures can't do that paint justice! Mike
