Projects So, If you were given a V-12 Lincoln flathead drivetrain, what would you do with it?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Dustyoldbodyman, Jul 27, 2011.

  1. Yup - for real. A guy I know has been offered running gear (engine, trans and rear axle) and front suspension from a V-12 Zephyr.
If you had an offer like this, what would you build that used this powertrain... I know Chip knocked it out of the park with P-32...
So maybe a duece roadster is out - maybe not. for this example just know my buddy already has an A roadster on duece rails.
We are not afraid to cut something up, so get out of the box... We need some inspiration here.... Looking forward to this post :cool::cool::cool:

When I get the FlatCad, and blown Jimmy 302 done, I plan on putting dual McCullough Superchargers, with 3 carbs per bank, on one.

  3. I would shove it in this:

For when it looked like this:

    There that'll get 'em started.

Contact the Kearney Foundry and pick up some finned aluminum heads. The call Ken Austin for a 2 x 2 intake. Basic rebuild and some home made headers and you're good to go.

  6. I have a narrowed, chopped 36 ford pickup cab with no running gear...
I'd fab up a skinny frame with Z's at both ends, shorten the torque tube and shaft and build a skinny, short "modified" with the lincoln parts.
I agree some boost may be in order.

    It's consumed me, ever since.:eek::cool:

The late Danny Sheffield, who worked at Blair's for years, built a Lincoln V-12, hand-built a log manifold to hold 5-97's. He ran it in a DKW coupe (remember those??) at Bonneville, and then we dropped it in our TE-440...only went 116 on gas, but it cost nothing to run and sounded great. Sheffield painted a perfect "Ferrari" logo on the heads, and it had lots of spectators scratching their heads...

So I guess the point is be original, you already have an original motor, put it into an original ride (maybe an old Zephyr??)

money no object? stretched-hood (if needed) 50s or even 60s Continental of some sort. Have some custom touches going, buy mostly a "what if" of a V12 super-ultra luxo kustom, with an eye to making it look like it could be factory.

Put it in a 33 Plymouth coupe. Just to be different. Maybe with 32 rails under the car, Quick change rear, louvered deck lid and the hood. (No sides on the hood) everyone wants to see the motor!! (your choice of rims, something old school)....yeah I think that would about do it.

An A tudor sedan. Or a deuce. Or anything I could get my hands on. Maybe a shoebox (really surprise people) or build an FED. With twin blowers.

  21. See - now you're talkin!! I love and have just dug every reply so far - keep 'em coming, but the first thing that popped into my head was a speedster of some type that really hit period correct right... Maybe it is time to draw something up - it sure has been a while since pencil hit paper around here

A boat anchor seems like a good use, I would not want it an any car of mine

  25. Intensely cool!!! I even know where a tank is hanging in the rafters...
Great minds think alike - I was toying with the old "U- Fab" approach myself

I actually had gone looking for this power train, was going to stretch a 32 frame and make find a 32 body, even if I had to go fiberglass, I realize that idea might make many of you cringe, but the "barn finds" around here are depleted with alot of the old farmsteads broken up for new housing developments. That and the mass influx of the junk patrol sneaking around and stealing all they can to take to the junk yards... We have had at least 3 people killed or injured stealing copper and aluminum electric wire right off the poles and out of substations....it is really getting stupid here. Anyway, was actually looking to build it into a 32 as I said, probably a pick up preferably, since that is about all I drive is trucks.

  27. .... with a Merc front end - or a Ford front end @ Merc length ( if I gotta explain that you missed it).... What a brain tease!!
