i am curious as to why most of the cars that are finished or are under construction all have what amounts to bodies installed.
to each his own as far as im concerned but i was just noticing that most ha/gr's look like the underside of a funny car or like a t bucket that would be just as comfortable on the street.
just havent seen many with just a cowl or running bare frames and was just curious how this new interpretation of the bug came to be acceptable.
thanksin advance for your opinions on this.

To get on most tracks, you need body panels to keep your body parts in the car in a crash. It is simply modern safety.

That'd cover the whole "cage" thing, five point harnesses, and firesuits as well, in as much as we race'em.

Beyond which, it's not an interpretation of the Bug, it's an interpretation of an era.

sure, safety is important. i get that.
i also understand intrepreting the era vs. the bug.
i just used that example because so many others hold it up as the impetus for the period in question.
for my money i will attempt to go with the less is more theory if i ever get to that point.
i hope to run just a modified cowl and if necessary some unobtrusive arm restraints.
if absolutely necessary i will see about fitting some "invisible as possible" side panels.

mostly my question was aimed at the t buckets and sprint car styled bodies that i have seen. even though i did mention the panels.
it doesnt bother me at all what someone does to his car, i was just curious about the reasoning behind the various approaches.
    thanks for the input.

Actually, I'm in your camp. I ran a single loop, six point roll bar as long as I could, it looked much better. The tech's finally made me go to the cage in order to stay at the strips out here. Same with the fire suits, I started out with just a jacket and gloves, but you know the story.

yeah but i guess its hard to fuss too much about being safe as possible.
i think i will be able to run at several area tracks without too much hassle.that is if i can ever really get this project off the ground, so to speak. the closest two are outlaw tracks and the other two that are close are nhra but are to their credit just lax enough to stay in business and still satisfy nhra and their insurance goons.

yep, just hopin it stays that way for a while.
unfortunately i got news yesterday that the closest track suffered a set back two weeks ago.
the owners wife drives and lost control at 140+ and suffered mutiple breaks and burns to one arm and side.
still in hospilal in little rock and most likely will be for a while.
they are still racing, we will just have to see how it affects things in the long run.

Our personal reason for the body was that I always loved Modified Roadsters and Altereds. With our 112" wheelbase and over 40% engine setback the car is more Modified Roadster and with the unconventional chassis layout the T-bucket was easier than trying to wrap it with aluminum.

you know you're gonna have to put a wing on it dont ya?

Don't think I'll go as far as adding a wing, but I'm pretty good at driving sideways with one hand. :D

Tom, your gas tank (nitro???) mounting is even reminiscent of Mousie's car. What was your subconscious thinking?
