    >>>What are the set screws for on the Vern Tardel Brake Retainers? I have a set but no directions and even though they seem easy enough I'd like to make sure I have them right the first time.

    >>>Also the spacer gets sandwiched between the backing place and the retainer bracket right?

    >>>How much space should there be between the retainer and the brake drum lip where it would catch in case of an axle failure?

    Thanks.

Just in case you don't get a quick answer here, e-mail him. I had a question and had an answer by the next day.

Don't they use the same screws that bolt the wheel clyinder to the backing plate ?

No they come with longer bolts and Spacers with these set screws that are in question.

Thanks Notch! But why are set screws there? And I'm I suppose to set the Spacers to a certain space so that it grabs the lip faster when the axle breaks?

  7. My Speedway set has no set screws?

I have no clue why, but I set mine all the way flush to the backing plate.

  10. You're probably right T! I also had to relieve them a little to clear the drum.

The spacers look like set collars to me.
