Ok this is a link to another forum, sorry if that offends anyone. The O.P. says they are in Georgia, but will not be any more specific. Does anyone know where this is? I'm ready for a road trip! http://gr***rootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/ultimate-ran-when-parked/38186/page1/
The junk yard is in LaGrange, on the north end on the highway to Franklin, Ga. The yard was on American Pickers this year. The owner will not sale anything, but the entire place is for sale. Hope that this helps. Mike
Thanks for the info, but if he doesn't sell, why does the sign on the fence say "Cars $700 and up" and "Guided tours $20"?
Beat me to it Mike---I used to visit our plants in Carrolton and Lagrange. I don't remember the signs tho---course that was in the mid-90's. Marty
There is a similar place in White, Georgia. Acres and acres of junkyard land with endless amounts of cars just wasting away. Its called Old Car City and its off US 411. I was just out there last year and the man that owned it had p***ed away. His son is now taking over and willing to sell. He was a little price crazy when I met him, but im sure after a year of trying to peddle out the m*** amounts of stuff he has on his hands, hes most likey ready to negotiate now. Not sure what your looking for but thought Id just p*** it along to ya....
it is in lagrange, ga. on hwy 27, martha berry hwy. the owner is macky , will not let you in or sell unless you buy it all. i have talked to him before. another is old car city, off i-75 white,ga. out of cartersville where i live.
Here is a link to contact information for the owner, Mack Waugh, and pictures of cars that are for sale. I have talked to him a couple of times at cruises, but haven't tried to buy a car. Saw him last Saturday. He is retired. I got the impression that he is willing to sell individual cars, but you will have to convince him that you are a serious buyer with cash, and not just looking for a junkyard tour. Most of the cars appear to be pretty far gone. http://www.flickr.com/photos/forwardlookguy/sets/72157602090321543/ Bob
I've heard a few stories, with directions, from old timers about small abandoned junkyards with nothing but prewar stuff in GA. Places that would only be accessible after a long hike with a machete, but the only way I'd dare go to those areas would be with a SEAL team.
I stopped by there a couple times when I was working in LaGrange. This was 3-4 years ago. At that time he did not have a liscense as a business and was not insured, therefore would not let anybody look around, didn't want the liability. He was also getting h***led by the local authorities to clean the place up as the widening of the highway was exposing some of his junk and the city didn't like looking at it. About a mile closer to town on the oposite side of the road is the remnants of Mac's Speed shop, you can see the old signage and painted building, it looks pretty cool. Good Luck.
