Back in 2008 a friend told me about this car that had been sitting for 30 years that he new of. It was 1/2 mile from my home of 20 years and I never new about it. The woman had recently bought the place from an absentee landlord. I got his address and wrote him a letter. Never got a reply but the woman who owned the house said he wanted the car. I stopped their every once in awhile. Eventually the woman quit answering the door when she saw me. About a year later it was gone.

    If it's a '49, seems somebody swapped on a "50 or '51 hood ornament.

Above is a '49 DeSoto ornament; below is the type used for '50 through '52.

Man is this the thread for me! I travel all over america and while I do that I find all these cool classics just sitting in a field, or a back lot, sometimes in a fenced in lot right on main st.! Case in point I found this beauty today in delaware(the state) right off of 295 and rt.13 in a trucking yard!

Kinda funny, my chevelle is sitting in my garage under a tarp, and in my mind I remember it running and being pretty clean. The other day I joked about selling it and a guy at work got very interested and wanted some pictures. So I figured what the heck, took some pictures and was shocked at how much crappier it was than what I remembered... Also, I remembered driving it 'just a couple of years ago' but the window sticker from the last cruise it was at just before it got parked was 2004. Whoops..

Jeff, you are right: The rear ends didn't change dramtically during those Keller years.

V8Garage, you are also right: These came with a choice of two inserts for the hood
ornament. The one above was chromed pot metal, the other was an amber-color
plastic, and a light ran in behind to light it (I liked that one!).

  20. It seems that it wasn't too long ago you were lucky just to get the scrap value for those trucks.

All I have is what is on my CarDomain page for it because once I got it home, is sat in my driveway for a few months then I hid it away till it's it's turn to get worked on.

The car is cool, it's barely had any updating since the 60's, the paint is from the 70's, even the places advertized on it had been gone for 35+ years! There is no rust, only some minor damage and it has a hell of a cage in it, I just need some vintage race wheels for it now, I found one at the local dump last year.

Found these on another piece of property I was doing some work on. There were some others under a pole barn adjacent to this barn. I didn't do a whole lot of poking around past snapping these pictures but they all seemed fairly solid.

Well, the landowner doesn't actually live on the property so there wasn't anyone immediately around to speak with. From the way I understood it from my boss, all their property is just old family land that they still lease the fields on and manage several small stands of timber, but they aren't out there on any kind of regular basis. If I had any real money to offer for any of the cars I would have tried to contact them and ask, but being that I was just working as a summer intern, I didn't want to bother them with it.

I hope that when I'm done with school once and for all I can make my way back out there, I got the feeling that none of those are going anywhere.

Sometimes making contact is good even if you are short on funds, I know it's worked out well for me in the past, I've asked about some cars and had them just given to me because I was the only one to ask.
