first trim up and they look good im going to clean it up more then weld them in and when im all complete maybe by winter i rip the car apart and put it on the rotisserie and cap off the under side to really complete it this was fun to do
only problem i have is they are thinner gauge then the rest of the floor im tempted to make them again
trimmed the drivers side too bad it was short buut i made a patch and attached it when i grind it hopefully it blends in
welded it more, was trying to blend it in perfect at first then remembered it gets hidden by the carpet duh! so i sprayed with epoxy primer i think im going to complete this one side first the do passenger side
now to replace old metal with new metal and retain the stock shape i plan on buying that lead filler stuff to lead the body cause i still have little pit holes and i dont know if i should keep trying to fill them in with the welder or just melt the lead into the holes and sand im trying to stay away from bondo as much as i can
made a patch for the front section of the rocker then started making the rear patch from scratch man this is fun
just made another patch from scratch i wish i had real shop tools just to see what i could really make
ok i need some help everyone huddle up since getting most of the drivers rocker done i decided to install the replacement rear door but.... before i repair the min0or rust issues i want to install power window regulator in it. i have a few questions first. 1-how the hell do you get the window out? 2- if i just attach regulator to window frame do i cut that tension spring so it could move freely? 3-if i could remove the old manual regulator then attach the powered will it still slide up and down evenly or some how leave the old arms of the regulator attached but disconnect the crank mechanism this is the inside regualtor this is the door the tension spring in the middle track other track power windows baby
started installing the passenger side rocker man it goes in quick the second time but i didn't finish before the rain so il have to wait till sunday
i posted my window question on the main board to get a broader search of the answer these two fine chaps helped me out i like to thank them and record it in the build page
1 a.m and just finished playing with the door you ready? used my wife compact to peek for the clips dailant mentioned heres the clip and how its attached here's my first attempt to mount power unit but it didn't work i have to make a bracket that sits under the window but theres so much tension even after i greased it what does the spring do? hold window uo from falling? it's tough to slide up and down is there a small regulator powered from like a volkswagon that looks like the orig?
Joel, most window regulators have a spring to support the weight of the window. This is similar to a hood spring or a trunk spring, so it handles most of the weight and you can easily raise or lower the part. On windows, the only time the window weight is supported solidly is when it's all the way down on the stops. The rest of the time, the teeth of the regulator hold up the weight and it's worse when you bounce down the road. Hoods and trunks are supported normally by the rubber seal and bumpers, so it's easier. You gotta plan for this when installing Power Window regulators. Best of luck on this and I really appreciate all the work you have done and continue to share with all of us.
well so far i mounted it in two locations and its too heavy for these regulators even tho i greased it like a pig. i will take photos later as im beat and think im quitting for the day. what i have come up with in my head after experimenting all day i could get powered regulators out of chevys they look just like my stock one but longer arms, why can i cut the arms down and weld on the guides ( the part the clips connect too) for the window making mini regulators or better yet a four door caprice back door might have mini's in them to bad my caprice is mint i wouldn't dare open it up to peek anyone have a back door regulator on hand for measurement UPDATE FOUND THESE BUT ARE VERY EXPENSIVE
What I have heard is that Jeep Grand Cherokee electric window regulators are good for transplants. Cable operated. If you have a junkyard nearby check it out, or ask online. (I've not messed with them myself, just passing on what I've heard.)
ok i measured the orig regulator and from each it's 11-1/2" so i just have to go to the junk yard and grab a couple and it would be a simple replacement also the last try i did i added a mount plate to the window to see if it could raise it from below but it's to heavy
Alright, finished all your posts up to #30 and the power windows, we're all waiting for more!! Good Job, the next one will go smoother as the confidence builds
just tried to patch a small hole on the replacment door and man i wish i could drop the car off to a shop i dont like doing it big pain in the neck
Hey Joel got the radio today man! Thanks again! I know what you mean about taking this stuff to a shop but who can afford that? I'm trying to work out a deal with my buddy who's a body guy cause I hate stuff like that!
feeling discouraged again i might save and just pay a shop to finish the body and just continue on the fabrication part to finish a body to smooth as glass is a task i don't have the skill for the door alone is kicking my ass to make it 100% perfect
Keep up the good work Joel!! Looks like you do your work like I do. By yourself with more time than money. I think it's the best way and makes you truly appreciate the car when it's done. I'm thinking about diving off into another project on a 47 Ply coupe but I'm not sure if I want to because I know it's a tremendous amount of work but, oh well, what else ya gonna do, right? Anyway, keep us posted and by the way I love that Packard you have, wish I could snatch it up...THAT is the OG by far. Adios. Edit: spelling
