Well I have positioned the 409 into the Corvair, and it fits like a glove. Will be bolting in the rear engine mounts tomorrow and continuing with a lot of other details. I have had this project on the go for about 2 years, maybe it could be running in the early fall
Looks like a corvair to me. Those ring and pinions are pretty light in those. Wheelie bars may be a good idea.lol
Sorry for posting twice guys, still getting use to this site LOL, the Corvair transaxle has a 4 spider setup in it and 3:89 gears, I know that stuff is very breakable but I think it will get me down the road ........if I'm careful GGG. I have a 1964 Corvair with a 327 powerglide in the rear and it's held up for about 4 years and about 5000 miles so far.The valve covers are aftermarket chrome steel with Merc Cruiser decals.
Nothing cooler than a man doing his dream machine, I really admire the project. Best of luck with it all. Please keep us posted. ~sololobo~
Nice work! Takes me back to high school (SSP 72)when Jerry Leyde had a 455 oldsie mounted in the back seat!! It was a butcher job - chain drive- sure was fun.
Great Googlymonga! Might have to put a continental spare tire housing on to fit the water pump and radiator.
We need to see the license plate and the names of the cars. I have been a passenger in the Corvair with the small block and it is a very nice ride. The install is so sanitary that some folks assume that it was a factory option.
The water pump is a V belt driven marine unit mounted on the side of the engine,no need for continental unit,LOL
Best "sleeper" Corvair I ever saw had a complete FWD 455 Olds Toranado drive train in the back seat. It was a four door and you just opened a door to check or service. Good weight distribution.
Is that what they call a Crown adapter at the bellhousing? I bet that's rare itself if it is. My dad bought a new Corvair 4dr the very same color as yours in 61' or 62'. This car is an absolute hoot. Tom S. in Tn. Wonder if a big block would go back there ?
