Now that is just obscene, but a little porn on a Sunday morning isn't reall a bad thing. You are going to have to get a bigger tank and keep if full just to keep the wheels on the ground. So in the words of a hot roddish musical, "Tell me more, tell me more ..."
When I clicked on this thread I expected the engine to be in the front. I have been pleasantly surprised. That is gonna be awesome.
I have been toying with the idea of building a Vair along the same lines but updating the engine/trans a little supercharged 3.8 engine on a bonneville cradle should fit and still have a back seat
At this point, why mot use a 2008-up Impala SS drive train? 5.3L LS motor and transaxle... that would make for a Helluva Ride
When I was a kid I pumped gas at a GULF station. There was a guy that had a Crown mid-engine conversion with a 327 Chev in a 69 Corvair that would fuel up there. He actually took me for a ride a few times after seeing how interested I was in his car. It was a rocket and cornered like a slot car!
As I said on the rear-engine thread, I've always liked the early Corvairs. I see you've got a four-door there. I think that makes for a strong build, as the elegance of the original Corvair concept had a lot to do with packaging. In other words, early Corvair four-doors are cool! The later ones were really only happy with two doors. I can't wait for the technical details: subscribed.
oops I forgot about that one I like the way you think ( keep the chevy all chevy) I wonder if a vw bus trans would hold up any better I have seen all kinds of wild engines mounted up on those for sand drags
Sherwood Brass Works makes the pump .it does not have a part number, it is a reverse rotation unit, I purchased it off EBAY These pumps were used on Chris Craft and likely others.
Is the 409 a reverse rotating engine? If not do you just put in different cams? I know when people used to use the corvair engines in sand rails with VW running gear they had to reverse the rotation of the engine using different cam. Or am I totaly off on this one? (wouldn't be the first or last time) The 091 bus transaxle is good to around 300hp. But you could go Mendeola, Albins or Fortin.
The 09 will have to be reverse rotation for it to work unless the corvair diff is flopped. corvair motors turned the opposite direction viewed from the crank pully end. I built a midengine 302 powered 66 vair and the stock engine rotation is correct with the engine in front of the axle.
An interesting technical exercise but...sheesh...700lb of motor hung out behind a swingaxle rearend. I don't think you could pay me enough to drive it over 40mph.
my first car was a '64 monza; 4-sp bucket seat car. i'd love to have it back. the same blue (or close) as this car. i'd LOVE to drive one of these with even more HP than the factory 6 produced. b-t-w; that 'vair handled better than every car i've ever owned; with the exception of the '66 'vette.
