Customs *** 1961 Cadillac CDV Kustom build ***

Here is a pic of the wire wheels. I think they are Truespokes with the unilug pattern.
Tires are Remington L78-15 Bias Ply with whitewalls on the inside.
Wheels are dirty but with a little elbow grease some chrome would come up to let you see what they would look like on your Caddy.
I have a cheap tire guy who would probably turn the whitewalls around for $25.
The wheels were on a 50 GMC truck so they should be the right bolt pattern but I have never tried it.
You are more than welcome to borrow them. I don't know about selling as they aren't worth anything and I don't want to be the bad guy that sells junk.
That should be about it.

i use a dynafile for most things but some things you've done are just too tight to get in there with it. never really thought about the roloc pads.

new truespokes are $$$$$$!!! 2400 bucks! wow that what they cost when they first came out.

 

Those wheel vintique wires are like the Kelsey hayes 63 sport Roadster wheels.
Personally I always preferred the look of the Skylark wires with its small hub.
On a sleek Kustom like yours the the wheel vintiques will look too old and too heavy.
I see a '53 Caddy using them but not a space age '61 or '62.
Watson liked to use the Skylark wires for a reason......

 

I just looked at the Truspoke website http://www.truespoke.net/Truespokesizes.html and a set of 15x6 is $1599. That is a lot of dough but I think you couldn't rebuild my set for that money given the cost of Chrome nowadays

These are the best I have found in this style. The guy owns a bunch of Cads, loves them, breaths them, he's cool. These have 52 spokes instead of 48 I believe, and they are also 18 inch instead of 15. They really are sweet and man I hope you go this route on that fine ass ride.

Wow those wheels look nice. They are totally different than the wheel Vintiques in the center design. I guess you get what you pay for.
If I was in your shoes I would get those and be the most stylish guy on the block....
as if you aren't already

 

I love the Buick wires, but they seem to be a bit more expensive.

But I had seen someone selling them cheaper, now I feel like I need to find them...

So I found the regular Buick Kelsey Heys, but not the Skylark ones.

 

Yeah i'm with Zman.. Buick Wires are the shiz....

 

I used a ER70S-2 tig rod and .30 mig wire ... that's it!!!! A little heat a hammer and dolly.

I think the copper-y bronze color you see is where he sanded back the chrome plating. You're seeing the copper coats under the chrome and nickle.

ian , just a little tip with filler rod.. get some 0.40 filler rod or .35 and dont use mig wire with the tig, mig wire is made of junk..hard to hammer weld. glad to see you step up and start using a tig.. looks great mang!

I didnt use the mig wire on the tig, i used my mig with .30 wire. ..... for the bottom area.

 

what are the caps/wheels on it now? they don't look terrible to me, but wires would look alot better.

I have a suggestion for ya. about seven years ago a guy drove up to the SK500 in a
mid 60's Caddy with Somreros. You would think that an older Caddy cap wouldn't look
good but it did.

Knowing you the Caddy is going to be sitting so low you will only need to buy two. LOL!!

I had a set hung on the wall, never thought of trying since I'm so focused on wires! Lol!

The caps on them now are stock 61

 

I took the paint off the stock cap, looks pretty good for now! With a nice tire and if the cap was chromed , it would be pretty decent..... I think?!?! Well for now, I don't wanna scratch new wire wheels anyways , while I finish her!

The stock caps look good. And who would think of leaving the stock caps on a Custom?

Nothing wrong with running the stock caps. I would throw a bullet in the center and
call it done until next year when your ready for an update.

The stock caps look good on it. Make the center where the logo is float so it is always in the same orientation just to change them up a little.
