  1. Well we know it's laundry day and this guy likes bananas and oranges. Could be grapefruit too, hard to tell from here. there is an address on the curb, and the fact there is a curb says to me it's in a town of sorts. Although on the edge of it.

I have to agree. One of my alltime favorite shots on this entire threa. Just a beautiful photo. the color is amazing for the time period and its true "americana". If it came from the Library of Congress database (they have this gigantic album of color shots taken for the government in that time period) then they usually have the location with the photo on the database. What i'd like to know is what this camera is!

Maybe somebody a bit more "stude" than me can confirm the year?

Here's a pic that I copied a while back, I don't remember if it was on HAMB or not. It's the Texas going under the bridge at SF, it looks like it could have been 1936 by the writing in the left lower corner. My brother used to work on the Texas in the early 70s. They would hire high school kids to clean, do light maintenance, etc. We spent the night on it a couple of times.

The photo location is 1900 Franklin St. Huston Texas, its sad but you can Google the address to see what it looks like today, its basically a large asphalt parking lot on a 4 lane road with a freeway overpass bridge going right over the top of it.The photo was taken in May 1943 on 4x5 Kodachrome-transparency by John Vachon...I must agree, its a good one,I've spent hours looking at all the small details of this shot

Right on, FarmerGal. :) Assuming it IS late-'30s, to hold THAT much detail, it HAD to have been a larger-format negative such as 3"X5" or that range. Maybe on Celuloid or other plastic, as glassplate, I think, would have gone away by then. Maybe an old Rolecord or Roliflex camera?

Oops! I guess others were keying when I was! LOL. Well, JalopyJunkie has provided the answers, and lots of them!

But it's one of the INSTANT CLASSICS of this thread, much like the shot of the Model A and oaktrees in Western Australia a while back, or Dog's ice-wagon-&-urban-skyline shot in Post #1 !!! Fantastic stuff.

The horse needs hooked up to the car, not the human hood ornament!
