This could very well be the start of the "propaner wars."

I dont mind gassers but I think in a couple years there is going to be lots of people looking to turn them back stock. I think Weasel hit the nail on the head. small light cars as gassers.

Glad I read all the posts first. Agreed that scoop has got to go. Gasser, well I don't know. If you do it post picks and I'll deside then.

Full width rear end, 6 or 7" black steel rims with 8.20 cheater slicks on the rear and some 5 spokes on the front would be good. Also after the hood scoop is gone. I'd leave the suspension alone. No need to put a straight axle on there.

  12. It's a '59 Ford wagon people..Gasser?..huh?..really? Is dope legal in Surrey B.C.? Man you must be smokin' some good shit.

X2 on gassers built from light cars. Boats like yours can be ANYTHING but a gasser in the real world.

  15. People are putting solid axles under the front of everything nowadays, and you end up with shit like this:

Oh shit that's mine! At least it weighs less than 2400 lbs stock, and I'm stripping it down as much as possible.

  16. Propane is a liquid, but you covert it into a gas to burn it, right? I need to watch some re-runs of King of the Hill to be sure.

He ain't talking about the year Dude. Listen to the Weasel. He speaks the truth.

  19. Jr stock ran wagons. Put a stock 9in where pro street rear is and change the wheels. Big wagons just dont do it for me as a gasser, and Ive seen several. A purple chrysler comes to mind. :p

I think this has the potential to be very cool. What is the drivetrain? Or is it still Corvair powered?

Weasel, fight the good fight man :D I know it gets old.......I've run across more Super Stock, Modified Production, and F/X examples than Gas wagons. Still the mouthy new to the scene old guys bother me more than a kid with interest.

I think my Dad is right, it seems like "Gassers" are the new Rat Rods. Someone has a car that they don't know what to do with so making a Gasser out of it has become the new default........ Kinda of a neat car man, I'd just swap out the wheels and tires along with the hood and drive the wheels off of it!

  27. Front engine V8. '64 327 small block Chevy with period speed equipment for starters, no modern bullshit. Maybe the early Hemi and 6-71 blower I have waiting on the bench someday; I have the parts, just no money to rebuild them.

I think "Gasser" has just become a generic term for any "Street Freak" with the front end up higher than the rear.
Many of these people are confusing the two. Just because they weren't run on the strip as real gas class racers, doesn't mean there wasn't things like 59 ford wagons done as straight axled "freaks". Hell, I have a Rod & Custom magazine from the late 60's with a 48 OLDSMOBILE WOODIE WAGON set up as a straight axled "gasser". R&C used to run a monthly feature called "highboy of the month" that featured wierd jacked up vehicles with straight axles.
Again, I think people are just using the term "Gasser" generically when refering to anything set up "Nose High". It's kind of like Rusty Wallace refering to his NASCAR race cars as "Hot Rods".

Yes, they were called tow or push cars. They didn't exactly run them, they used them to push or pull the actual racecars. lol :D
