Reading threads....you ever hold back on a reply?

Discussion in 'Questions & Suggestions' started by INVISIBLEKID, Aug 11, 2011.

  1. I'm not holding out this time, that was funny! I can't wait, only four more minutes to midnight, too!

  2. It's 2 a.m. here in Tejas already on the wine, soon for the scotch. Where's a Rat Rod Gasser Flat Blak Rules thread when you need it?

  3. I do more reading than posting, learning every thing I can. In the words of the great one "better to keep mouth shut and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt"

    ABSOLUTELY SPOT ON MAN!!

I find myself posting less, often just shake my head at at thread....(Heh..that rhymes).......... and move on. When I do reply I try not to hold back, I have two types of reply.
1-The serious reply trying to help someone, (Rare) and
2, taking the piss out of something.
That second one is just the Aussy way.
I still consider myself much of a FNG, the soul of the HAMB, guys like Muttley posted up (With the exception of me but thanks man) were all here at the start.

There are some great guys and dolls here, too bad we are being over run with the 'participation trophy' type.

Ryan, hold your head up high man.

    Doc.

Nope..I tell it like it is...right or wrong. Sometimes the people answering a thread get all pissy about my answer and it has nothing to do with them....

More than I can ever count. I try NOT to contribute to a post that is just trying to be argumentative and really not contribute anything constructive to the HAMB. I get pissed when someone just tries to pick a fight but then I realize that responding to the stupid thread is what the asshole really wants and it keeps it at the top for others with less self restraint to jump on the pile and keep it going. I don't want the stupid poster to get what he wants. It just seems so obvious to me when someone just wants to stir up some shit. I stay away.

Sometimes I just repost a reply that needs to be reread when it covers everything I would have posted. :)

  15. Chili Phil and Tommy have hit the nail on the head. While it is great that the HAMB has grown to where it is and the knowledge base has expanded exponentially, the increase in fools has blossomed as well. Sadly there may be a point where continued addition of "contibutors" has a detrimental effect on the true joy this site has brought to so many.....Don.

That's fine.....I'll never learn anything if I dont ask. I'm 27 and the only one in my family and friends thats into Traditional Hot Rods, so I'm on my own when it comes to gaining knowledge. Those guys havn't scared me off I love the HAMB

Well i could be considered a FNG but we also just finished our first project and we're onto the next. I typically enjoy interacting with people here and i value everyones insight. This whole hot rod deal is new to us but we're totally into it and we sometimes wouldn't be able to go on with projects if it wasn't for the information we could find here (we have no friends who are into the hobby; its just my boyfriend and i who are left to figure it all out on our own).

With that being said; I try to be respectful here and read up on everything and absorb it so I don't feel like an idiot. We have a few friends who are into restoring cars; not hot rodding, and they have been very informative in the more technical aspects of the cars; so no, we haven't just learned from people who know nothing. We are not the type who "know nothing" and will just hack at a car and do it shitty. I'd say what we've done so far is better than half the stuff i see on this forum.

I've also ran into a few "older" members of this board who have been downright rude through PM's (to the point where it could be considered harassment) and it almost made me want to up and leave the forum all together.

I didn't come here to piss anyone off, annoy people, or sound like an idiot so i straight out apologize if i have done any of the above. I came here to learn and gather information to start participating in this hobby.

This is also an internet forum where people come here to socialize...about their hobby. No matter what is posted here; its always going to be an opiniated reply unless your asking questions about how things are supposed to work, etc...then its mostly truthful replies, not opinionated. We all have our own opinions and views on how things should look or be done and i think its just a natural part of an internet forum to want to share our opinions; whether good or bad. it's just that; sometimes people's opinions are a bit more harsh than others.

Well said on all posts above.
This is a really great forum, and for the amount of members the moron posts are really minimal.
I bite my lip all the time in an effort not to answer them, as it usually only feeds their sick ego.
On occasion I will reply to a stupid post to a FNG's question, as we all were new at one time, and they deserve the respect of a decent answer, not sarcasm.
I am surprised though at the amount of stupid answers that are given by older members, who should know better.
This is a tough forum, but the rules are very well spelled out up front, and the moderators do a very good job of keeping it just what it was intended to be.
    Cheers.........

Someone's going to be full of shit, have a different opinion, have just exactly the knowledge that helps us, or agree with everything we ever said. There's nearly 140,000 members on this site. Someone is going to say something.

The HAMB is like a beautiful girl with a fat butt. If you only look at her butt, you'll miss the rest of her. If there was such a thing as, "Miss Perfect HAMB", she wouldn't allow OUR input.

  22. Not to hijack the thread, but I have a CHERRY 32 Duece coupe, do you think I should put it on a S10 frame or a Dodge Dakota frame? Ive never welded before, so also give me detailed info on building a frame for it if I decide to go that route. What do you think of ZIRGO electric fans, any good? Thanks in advance. Also, what is the best tranny to use with the above combo? I'm new here, and this thread might contain some satire, so please go easy on me.

I think your on the right track,... You might want to consider a Ford F-100 chassis,... (to keep it all ford), Besides it has the big wheel bolt pattern,.. just split the body in two and pop rivet sheet metal in the center so you can stretch it over the frame (kuz it'll be wider). You don't have to weld nuth'in. As long as you can find lag bolts, zip ties & duck tape. As far as the tranny goes,... Well to each his own,.. But I always liked real girls,.... Not them tranny things. I hope this helps. :D

well, i usually don't respond to threads like this, but, pics would help. is it a barn find. i hate you if it is. it's your car, build it the way you want. i think it would look great flat black with red wheels, you can find cheap paint at the tractor depot, along with paint brushes and rollers. if there is any rust, you can pop rivet old street signs for patches and what the hell, do the whole damn floor for that matter. looks real cool. ebay would be your best bet for cooling fans, since you'll probably running the 6 that's in the frame. leave the tranny also, better gas milage with the overdrive, unless your it's going to be a 4x4. good luck with your build and make sure to post pics. subscribed.:D:cool::eek::rolleyes::eek::mad::p;):(:)

I don't really care if someone posts an opinion different than mine or if they even don't have a clue what they are talking about. I just don't like whiners.

Can I start an I don't like whiners thread?

Ive been a member on here for about 6 years now and still under a hundred posts even though im on here almost every day. i also only post when ive got something constructive to add (usually) but i see it as the same ribbing you get around the shop or garage. most of us are car guys that have been around it all our life, its part of our/the culture, a hazing ritual if you will. if your the new guy your fair game, and its a way to weed out the trolls. this is a traditional rod and custom forum with alot of people who know what that is, and alot of newbies that have misconceptions of that. again the ribbing is a decent way of weeding out the ones who don't want to listen/or hear what traditional is really about.
