Do you have to remind us how old we are? Getting old isn't so bad when you consider the alternative.

There was trash everywhere along the roads and freeways growing up in So Cal. Several posts on the HAMB show some of the first car shows in the very late forties, and there is trash on the floor around some of the displays. It was accepted until commercials started showing up in the early 60's of a Native American man shedding one powerful tear...

Saw many of the old Hwy patrol shows and always heard Crawford drank like a fish. Still liked the old shows.

For more about the show go to: http://highwaypatroltv.com/

This site is presented by Gary Goltz who has the tribute car shown in Bad Bob's post above. His is a hardtop instead of a post sedan like the actual cars. There is also a 1/25 scale die-cast model made by Maisto of the 1955 Buick CHP car that is the authentic Special 2-door sedan with Century front fenders and badges.

These Buicks are truely unique to the CHP. They're essentially a Century 2Dr Sedan mated to the Roadmaster ch***is and front cap. The giveaway is the four portholes you can see in the CHP photos. Buick should have been a little stealthy and eliminated one of the portholes to keep everyone (including the bad guys!) guessing! :)

There was a guy named Walter Gibson from the LA area that had a 55 Buick drag car, it was painted like the Highway Patrol. He also raced a nailhead powered early dragster and dealt in Buick parts. Used to see him at Fremont in the eighty's.

In the 2nd season if you look on Y-tube theres one about a wrecking yard taking vin tags off totals and putting them on stole cars theres a shot of a 55 T bird ( new ) with a they never used a tripower on a Y-Block new bird. I loved the 55 olds 2 door used in the first season. 21-50-21-55

These Century 2-door sedans are NOT on a Roadmaster ch***is. They were ***embled from the standard Special-Century ch***is. The Super-Roadmaster ch***is was much larger and heavier. All of the Century models were built on the Special ch***is with the larger Super-Roadmaster engine, but the Century was not available in a 2-door sedan. The CHP special ordered approx. 250 of these from Buick, half of which were standard three-speed shift.

Yes...It was then popular actor Iron Eyes Cody. I was a rowdy teenage yay-hoo with a too-big flathead then, and the commercial touched me.

But I wasn't a litterbug anyway, because I had attended Catholic school for the first 8 years and Father Maginnas would have been all over me like...

I never missed an episode of Highway Patrol. The one mentioned was a favorite of mine, saw it maybe 3 times. I always thought badly of the ex-con big brother that forced his Hot Rod buildin' little bro into using the hopup for a getaway car...but ex-con big bro DID fund it... Always wondered about that supercharger, too. All I saw was Rochesters on that Olds.

21-50 Bye.. I have the entire series (on bootleg dvds), great show.. I've always wondered why they had to hide the "California" on the license plates, even though they were obviously California 1956 style yellow plates.. the show featured early appearances by Leonard Nimoy, Clint Eastwood, Robert Conrad, Barbara Eden, and others.. not to mention the mid-50s Buicks amd Mercurys, the 1957 Dodge's, and lots of 1957-58 Mercurys..
