Contrary to what knee-jerk TV news people might say, there was an Elvis Presley before he appeared on the "Ed Sullivan Show." Thanks to the Official Elvis Presley Fan Club, here's 20-year-old Elvis having a ball on the "Louisiana Hayride" out of Shreveport, LA, on August 13, 1955. That night, he again did his first Sun Records hit for Sam Phillips, "That's Alright, Mama," his current hit, "Baby, Let's Play House," as well as rocking the audience (including lots of screaming young ladies) with a cover of Chuck berry's "Maybellene."

Bent on success, the Tupelo, MS, hard-working country boy was, by now, billed appropriately as "The Hillbilly Cat" on the Hayride, the number-one competition to the Opry as the geographic focal point of country & western music. It's a good thing Elvis was a young buck, as he worked his ass off, playing gigs all over the South, often driving all night with band mates to make dates.

Elvis first was allowed on the Hayride stage at age 19 on October 16, 1954, and spent the next year there honing the on-stage persona that transformed him from "Hillybilly Cat" into a hip-shaking, leg-pumping "Elvis, the Pelvis." When Ed Sullivan decided to schedule him, he'd heard a rumor that the prankster Elvis often put a lengthy length of rubber hose down his leg inside his tight-fitting outfit, all the better to drive the ladies in the front row to squeal. (I happen to believe the rumors, as Elvis was cultivating the image of the talented but sexy rough boy. Remember that leg-shake?) Sullivan guarded against any viewer uproar by having his cameraman shoot the future mega-star only from the waist up! LOL!

Back then, Elvis was already three real people, IMO: He was still a loving momma's boy and daddy's son with deep religious roots and a love of gospel; he was a ladies' man, as we know; and he was the fast-evolving king of the new genre called Rock&Roll.

Speaking for myself, I am with the folk who love Elvis' pre-U.S.Army material the best of his entire repertoire. I was electrified when, in 1969, Elvis did his famous TV special, dispelling any doubt that the REAL Elvis -- pelvis and all -- was still in there! The new market, though, was in Vegas.

Just a little good-natured jerking of yer chain there, man.:D You were actually right, that the pic of the gal in the car was artfully done. I saw that, too, and wondered who went to that much trouble to light it so well. I wish somebody knew the background, as it din't look like a rank snapshot by any means. Nicely done.

Oh, and in the early '80s, my car projects got sidelined by raising kids, and the only "topless lady" I was seeing then was my wife, now of 40 years.

That said, YOUR wife ... does she like ... photography???

    (Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.)

Well, apparently, ODDEE didn't want his/her images of early sexist print ads shared, even with THANKS and credit given. We get the RED-X biz sometimes, and we don't really need to post anything that somebody doesn't want reposted, credited or otherwise. So, I deleted Posts # 29,564; 29,565 and 29,566.

BTW, all the "offending" posts are showing for me, but if everybody who quoted them deletes their posts, the copyright owners should have no problems, I'd think.

If everybody could see 29,567, I'll leave that. Please let me know by PM, so we don't add unneccessary posts.

I think it's a Ford, but I'm not sure. Pop had his pick-up, but Mom wanted a car.

NO matter how much they ran down whether America could, and would FIGHT:cool:, Hitler
and Tojo both KNEW that it was the INDUSTIAL MIGHT (including coal miners, railroads,
textile workers, farm workers, etc., etc., etc.!!!) that they really had to fear!!! In my life,
I've known men and women who worked six and seven days a week keeping our war
    machine running.;)

NOW, you look at this photo RacerRon posted, okay? Reckon HOW many nights of sleep Hitler
lost trying to think of a way to destroy factories such as this?:( Instead, Yank, Brit and Cana-
dian flyers destroyed HIS. Then, we went after Japan's. Hey, Adolph and Tojo!

    GAME OVER!

The days when Americans still had a chance to use their strong backs, PATRIOTISM and tech-
nology. The days before our elected reps allowed the base of our GDP to be sold off, piece by
piece. At least, we should all say a word of thanks, every day, to God for our brave warriors
overseas:D, NOW fighting for the freedoms and national values that are slipping away from us
    now, on our own soil.

The cover of a '59 album RCA cobbled together while Elvis was in the Armored
army division in Germany. This was, of course, to keep Elvis's image and material
in the public eye and ear while he was doing his duty. It was mainly B-sides and
old Sun Sessions numbers that hadn't been on long-play previously.

That said, I have two questions. Anybody know when and where the PHOTO was
actually taken? And secondly, is that one of his OWN Caddys, or is it a car the
publicity guys scared up in Germany, specifically for the album cover?
